This work provides a comprehensive review of mathematical modeling used to simulate the performance of photovoltaic (PV) modules. The meteorological parameters that influence the performance of PV modules are also presented. Various deterministic and probabilistic mathematical modeling methodologies have been investigated. Moreover, the metaheuristic methods used in the parameter extraction of diode models of the PV equivalent circuits are addressed in this article to encourage the adoption of algorithms that can predict the parameters with the highest precision possible. With the significant increase in the computational power of workstations and personal computers, soft computing algorithms are expected to attract more attention and dominate other algorithms. The different error expressions used in formulating objective functions that are employed in extracting the parameters of PV models are comprehensively expressed. Finally, this work aims to develop a comprehensive layout for the previous, current, and possible future areas of PV module modeling.

A Comprehensive Review of Photovoltaic Modules Models and Algorithms Used in Parameter Extraction

This paper deals with a comparison between different sizing techniques for off-grid microgrid systems (M G). Indeed, they can be divided in firstly, analytical methods, which consist on an optimal development analysis. Secondly, iterative methods that based on Loss of power supply probability (LPSP), Deficiency of power supply probability (DPSP), Relative Excess Power Generated (REPG), Energy Cost (EC) and Total Net Present Cost (TNPC). Thirdly, artificial methods such as Genetic algorithm (GA) and Particle swarm optimization (PSO). To demonstrate the effectiveness of one of these techniques (DPSP, REPG, TNPC, EC) in sizing problem, a PV -battery has been studied.

A Simple and Efficient Determination of the Ideality Factor of Solar Cells and Modules from the Knee Point of the Shunt Resistance Curve

Building an accurate mathematical model of photovoltaic modules is an essential issue for providing reasonable analysis, control and optimization of photovoltaic energy systems. Therefore, this study provides a new accurate model of photovoltaic Panels based on single diode Model. In this case, the proposed model is the link between two models which are the ideal model and the resistance network. All parameters are estimated based on hybrid Analytical/Numerical approach: three parameters photocurrent, reverse saturation current and ideality factor are obtained using an Analytical approach based on the datasheet provided by the manufacturer under Standard Test Conditions. The series and shunt resistances are obtained by using a Numerical approach similar to the Villalva's method in order to achieve the purpose of modeling the resistance network part. Our model is tested with data from the manufacturer of three different technologies namely polycrystalline, Mono-crystalline silicon modules and thin-film based on Copper Indium Diselenide, and for more accurate performance evaluation we are introducing the Average Relative Error and the Root Mean Square Error. The simulated Current-Voltage and Power-Voltage curves are in accordance with experimental characteristics, and there is a strong agreement between the proposed model and the experimental characteristics. The computation time is 0.23 s lower than those obtained using others approach, and all obtained results under real environment conditions are also compared with different models and indicated that the proposed model outperforms the others approach such as villalva’s and kashif’s method. 

A novel hybrid numerical with analytical approach for parameter extraction of photovoltaic modules

Today, photovoltaic (PV) panels represent a large part of total power generation. Photovoltaic cells and modules parameter estimation is a relevant field of research that plays a critical role in PV system modeling and simulation. This paper presents a new simple and accurate hybrid method to estimate the five parameters of the single-diode model. The proposed method aims to build a set of equations as functions of the five unknown parameters based on the three remarkable points and the PV datasheet's information. These equations will be used to derive a closed form expression for I0, Iph, Rsh, and Rs. This paper also presents a new simple iterative approach to better estimate the fifth parameter, the ideality factor (n), using only datasheet information. The novelty of this study is to use a new effective simple hybrid method that combines the analytical and the iterative approaches based on the increment of the ideality factor by step of 0.01Vt to achieve the minimum Root Mean Square Error possible. The results reveal that the proposed method outperforms a large number of analytical, numerical, and even the most powerful meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of accuracy, simplicity and reliability. 

A new hybrid method to estimate the single-diode model parameters of solar photovoltaic panel

aim of this work is to identify the tensor of thermal conductivity and volumetric heat of an anisotropic material with conductivity tensor diagonal, the heat conduction follows the linear Fourier law. The temperature field in the plate is obtained by solving the analytical heat equation. The solution of the direct problem is simulated by applying the Finite Element Method 2D. The inverse problem is solved by returning the intermediate step of the MEF. An optimization method based on conjugate gradient algorithm has enabled us to develop an identification of thermophysical parameters procedure.
