Journal ArticleDOI

Ethnopharmacological studies of antimicrobial remedies in the south of Brazil.

TL;DR: The antimicrobial evaluation of the species most commonly used in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, for treating conditions likely to be associated with microorganisms is reported, useful for rationalizing the use of medicinal plants in established systems of traditional medicine in primary health care.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antimicrobial activity of some Hypericum species.

TL;DR: The most active plant was H. caprifoliatum, which showed activity against Staphylococcus aureus, and only H. polyanthemum and H. ternum extracts were active against Bacillus subtilis, while none of the crude methanolic extracts showed action against S. epidermidis, Escherichia coli or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Capsicum baccatum: from traditional use to scientific approach.

TL;DR: The findings suggest that Capsicum baccatum contains potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds which could be tested as drug candidates against oxidative and inflammation-related pathological processes in medicinal chemistry studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiinflammatory and antinociceptive activities of extracts and isolated compounds from Stachytarpheta cayennensis.

TL;DR: Results indicate that S. cayennensis shows antiinflammatory properties which seems to be due, at least partly, to the inhibition of bradyknin and histamine.
