Manal Hamed Mahmoud Background: Nursing process used in clinical practice worldwide to deliver quality-individualized care to patients and lack of its application can reduce the quality of care. Applying nursing process requires understanding of factors affecting its implementation from the perspective of nurses. Methods: Aim: the present study aimed to explore barriers and facilitators for execution of nursing process from nurses' perspective. Research Design: a descriptive-exploratory design utilized in this study. A convenient sample of 148 nurses recruited for the current study. Study Tool: The utilized questionnaire consisted of four parts: included the socio-demographic data; previous experiences and practices of the nursing process (NP); the advantages of the NP and finally, the difficulties to the execution phase of the NP; opinions on perceived barriers and facilitators of NP execution. Results: Majority of nurses (94.6%) indicated that they had good knowledge of the NP and confidence in ability to apply it (79.8%). Top one advantage reported for NP is that it is a mean of unifying nursing practice (96%). Data collection identified by majority as the difficult phase (63.5%). Nurses identified barriers related work as the most commonly encountered barriers (81%). Having theoretical knowledge and practical experience (96%) was the most facilitator for easy execution of the NP. Conclusion and Recommendations. Barriers and facilitators for execution of nursing process from nurses' perspective

Objective: To evaluate adolescents’ knowledge, public school students in the city of Natal/RN, about transmission, prevention and risk behavior regarding STD/HIV/AIDS. Methods: Descriptive study with a quantitative approach carried out from March to December 2013 with 222 students of a public school in the city of Natal, Northeastern Brazil. Data were collected from a semi-structured questionnaire answered in the classroom. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, CAAE: 13831113.6.0000.5537. Prior written consent was obtained from parents or caregivers and adolescents. The inclusion criteria consisted of the student being regularly enrolled in school, in high school, and agree to participate voluntarily in the research. Results: The study found significant levels of ignorance about transmission, prevention and treatment of AIDS, and elucidated some risk behaviors that make young people vulnerable to STD/AIDS. Conclusion: Sexual orientation programs in schools are needed to encourage adolescents for a safe sexual behavior, healthier and less exposed to risk.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the knowledgeof nurses on early identification of acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care, emergency and hospitalization units. METHOD A prospective multi-center study was conducted with 216 nurses, using a questionnaire with 10 questions related to AKI prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. RESULTS 57.2% of nurses were unable to identify AKI clinical manifestations, 54.6% did not have knowledge of AKI incidence in patients admitted to the ICU, 87.0% of the nurses did not know how to answer as regards the AKI mortality rate in patients admitted to the ICU, 67.1% answered incorrectly that slight increases in serum creatinine do not have an impact on mortality, 66.8% answered incorrectly to the question on AKI prevention measures, 60.4% answered correctly that loop diuretics for preventing AKI is not recommended, 77.6% answered correctly that AKI does not characterize the need for hemodialysis, and 92.5% said they had no knowledge of the Acute Kidney Injury Networkclassification. CONCLUSION Nurses do not have enough knowledge to identify early AKI, demonstrating the importance of qualification programs in this field of knowledge.

Nurses' knowledge to identify early acute kidney injury.

Objetivo: com objetivo de identificar a percepcao dos enfermeiros acerca da contribuicao do Processo de Enfermagem para a Sistematizacao da Assistencia de Enfermagem realizado em Hospital de Ensino do Sul do Brasil. Metodo: estudo qualitativo com carater descritivo e exploratorio. Os participantes da pesquisa foram 38 enfermeiros. A analise qualitativa foi de conteudo e com os recursos do software Atlas Ti®. Resultados: apos a analise foram encontradas as seguintes categorias tematicas: aspectos operacionais do Processo de Enfermagem; o Processo de Enfermagem e sua aplicacao pratica; facilidades e dificuldades na implementacao do Processo de Enfermagem. Conclusao: a utilizacao de um modelo assistencial para guiar a pratica de enfermagem ha mais de tres decadas, tem repercutido de maneira positiva na qualidade da assistencia prestada, bem como na satisfacao dos enfermeiros ao perceberem seu trabalho reconhecido. O Processo de Enfermagem melhora a sistematizacao da assistencia de enfermagem, com a filosofia da Instituicao e do Servico de Enfermagem alinhadas a uma politica de educacao permanente.

Processo de enfermagem: instrumento da sistematização da assistência de enfermagem na percepção dos enfermeiros

OBJETIVO: analizar las percepciones de los estudiantes de un curso de graduacion en enfermeria sobre su formacion en la Sistematizacion de la Asistencia de Enfermeria.METODO: estudio cualitativo comprensivo, realizado con 32 estudiantes de las cuatro series del curso de enfermeria de una universidad publica brasilena estatal, que tiene la Sistematizacion de la Asistencia de Enfermeria como tema transversal. La recoleccion de datos fue realizada por medio de grupo focal, con preguntas orientadoras que abordaron el aprendizaje del tema. Los grupos focales fueron grabados, filmados, transcritos en su totalidad y sometidos a un proceso de analisis de contenido, segun Bardin. El referencial teorico empleado fue el Pensamiento Complejo, propuesto por Edgar Morin.RESULTADOS: fueron elaboradas tres categorias que agruparon las actividades de ensenanza y aprendizaje, los sentimientos experimentados y la vision del estudiante sobre su formacion en la Sistematizacion de la Asistencia de Enfermeria.CONCLUSION: se constato que la tematica esta presente en todas las series, sin embargo, de manera fragmentada y que, el desarrollo del proceso y de la consulta de enfermeria en la practica, fueron las actividades mas importantes en el aprendizaje de la Sistematizacion de la Asistencia de Enfermeria por los estudiantes.

El conocimiento del enfermero sobre la Sistematización de la Atención de Enfermería: de la teoría a la práctica

O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o conhecimento dos enfermeiros sobre a Sistematizacao da Assistencia de Enfermagem (SAE) em um hospital de grande porte em Recife, Pernambuco. Realizou-se um estudo descritivo, exploratorio e quantitativo. A populacao foi composta de 107 enfermeiros assistenciais com amostra de 73 (68%). A coleta de dados foi realizada em junho de 2008, atraves de um questionario semiestruturado preenchido pelos sujeitos. Verificamos que 50 (69%) nao tinham conhecimentos sobre a SAE e especialmente sobre os diagnosticos de enfermagem. Constatamos ausencia de formularios na maioria das unidades de internacao. Os enfermeiros justificaram diversas razoes para nao trabalharem com a SAE, dentre elas, a sobrecarga de trabalho e escassez de formularios. Concluimos que existe a necessidade de maiores incentivos institucionais e politicos, de forma a permitir que o enfermeiro exerca a profissao com mais autonomia.

O conhecimento do enfermeiro sobre a Sistematização da Assistência de Enfermagem: da teoria à prática

The objective of this study is to analyze the knowledge that nurses from a large hospital in Recife, Pernambuco, have about Nursing Care Systematization (NCS). This is a descriptive, exploratory, quantitative study. The study population consisted of 107 clinical nurses, with a sample of 73 (68%). Data collection was performed in June 2008, using a semi-structured questionnaire that was filled out by the subjects. We found that 50 (69%) nurses had no knowledge about NCS, especially about nursing diagnoses. We identified the absence of forms in most hospitalization units. The nurses gave several justifications for their not working with NCS, including work overload and the scarcity of forms. We concluded that there is a need for more incentives by the institution and through policies, so as to permit nurses a greater autonomy in their practice.
