Frailty and Mortality in Kidney Transplant Recipients
Mara McAdams-DeMarco,Mara McAdams-DeMarco,Andrew Law,Elizabeth A. King,Elizabeth A. King,Babak J. Orandi,Babak J. Orandi,Megan L. Salter,Megan L. Salter,Natasha Gupta,Eric K.H. Chow,Nada Alachkar,Niraj M. Desai,Ravi Varadhan,Jeremy D. Walston,Dorry L. Segev,Dorry L. Segev +16 more
TL;DR: Regardless of age, frailty is a strong, independent risk factor for post‐KT mortality, even after carefully adjusting for many confounders using a novel, efficient statistical approach.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frailty, Length of Stay, and Mortality in Kidney Transplant Recipients: A National Registry and Prospective Cohort Study
Mara McAdams-DeMarco,Elizabeth A. King,Xun Luo,Christine E. Haugen,Sandra R. DiBrito,Ashton A. Shaffer,Lauren M. Kucirka,Niraj M. Desai,Nabil N. Dagher,Bonnie E. Lonze,Robert A. Montgomery,Jeremy D. Walston,Dorry L. Segev +12 more
TL;DR: Frail KT recipients are more likely to experience a longer LOS, and frailty is a measure of physiologic reserve that may be an important clinical marker of longer surgical LOS.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Risk Index for Living Donor Kidney Transplantation
Allan B. Massie,Allan B. Massie,Joseph Leanza,Lara M. Fahmy,Eric K.H. Chow,Niraj M. Desai,Xun Luo,Elizabeth A. King,Mary G. Bowring,Dorry L. Segev,Dorry L. Segev +10 more
TL;DR: A living kidney donor profile index (LKDPI) on the same scale as the DD KDPI is created, using Cox regression and adjusting for recipient characteristics to better inform clinical decision‐making.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in Frailty After Kidney Transplantation
Mara McAdams-DeMarco,Kyra Isaacs,Louisa Darko,Megan L. Salter,Natasha Gupta,Elizabeth A. King,Jeremy D. Walston,Dorry L. Segev +7 more
TL;DR: To understand the natural history of frailty after an aggressive surgical intervention, kidney transplantation (KT), kidney donation (KT) is used as a guide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Individual Frailty Components and Mortality in Kidney Transplant Recipients
Mara McAdams-DeMarco,Hao Ying,Israel O. Olorundare,Elizabeth A. King,Christine E. Haugen,Brian Buta,Alden L. Gross,Rita R. Kalyani,Niraj M. Desai,Nabil N. Dagher,Bonnie E. Lonze,Robert A. Montgomery,Karen Bandeen-Roche,Jeremy D. Walston,Dorry L. Segev +14 more
TL;DR: Age was the only conventional factor associated with frailty among KT recipients; however, factors rarely measured as part of clinical practice, namely, HRQOL, IADL disability, and depressive symptoms, were significant correlates of frailty.
