A Distal Forearm Fracture in Childhood Is Associated With an Increased Risk for Future Fragility Fractures in Adult Men, but Not Women

TL;DR: A distal forearm fracture in boys, but not girls, is associated with an increased risk for fragility fractures as older adults, and whether the increased fractures observed in men is due to persistent deficits of bone strength, continued high fracture risk activity, or both is necessary.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fracture Incidence and Characteristics in Young Adults Aged 18 to 49 Years: A Population-Based Study

TL;DR: Whereas pediatric and elderly populations often fracture from no more than moderate trauma, young adults, and more commonly men, suffer fractures primarily at non‐osteoporotic sites due to more significant trauma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carriage of a tumor necrosis factor polymorphism amplifies the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 attributed risk of primary biliary cirrhosis: evidence for a gene-gene interaction.

TL;DR: The premise that deficiency in T‐cell regulation resulting in an increased risk of PBC is amplified by overexpression of an important proinflammatory cytokine provides a basis for future functional studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of bisphosphonate treatment on circulating osteogenic endothelial progenitor cells in postmenopausal women.

TL;DR: Findings indicate that bisphosphonate treatment down-regulates the expression of osteogenic genes in EPCs and suggest a possible mechanism by which bisph phosphonates may inhibit vascular calcification.
