A method for electromagnetic acceleration of an object involving interaction of magnetic forces between magnetic rings on the object to be accelerated and alternating magnetic fields in a ringing circuit formed in each of a series of linearly arranged doughnut shaped accelerator coils with the frequency of the ringing circuit generated in each coil being adjusted according to velocity of the body being accelerated by adjusting the capacitance in each ringing coil circuit; computation being necessary for each particular application to properly match components to achieve desired velocity.

Method for electromagnetic acceleration of an object

A fuel assisted electromagnetic launcher wherein a payload is contained in a forward portion of a pointed cylindrical launch container and rocket fuel is contained in a rearward portion; and wherein a launch preparation unit in the launcher cools and heats alternate junctions in circular disposed thermopiles around the cylindrical launch container; and wherein electrical coils encased in plastic form a cylindrical barrel. With the coils with spacers in between each containing a photoelectric detector charged by an external D.C. voltage source electrical fields from the coils interact with the electrical fields around the launch container when the launch container is propelled into the cylindrical barrel by ignition of the rocket fuel; the interaction being caused by the magnetic wave field successively generated in the coils as the ablative tip of the launch container approaches each coil and thereby activates thru the photoelectric detector in the spacer a Mos-Fet switch or a similar nano-second switch to open a switch in the D.C. charged coil circuit between the D.C. voltage source and a capacitor connected across the inlet and exit leads of each of the coils.

Fuel assisted electromagnetic launcher

A coil launcher having a barrel segmented into sections formed of sets of poly-phase energizable coils which are energized in succession by a power supply comprised of capacitors, with one capacitor coupled to a respective section of coils. A predetermined number of sections of coils disposed at the breech end of the barrel are merged, and the resultant merged section is coupled to a like number of pre-energized capacitors which are connected successively and cumulatively in series to that merged section of coils by way of switch circuits, whereby the number of capacitors connected in series increases over time to increase the level and resonant frequency of energy supplied to that merged section of coils.

Apparatus for driving a coil launcher

An electromagnetic launcher system which includes a homopolar generator pulse power supply recovers post-launch rail inductive energy and transfers it to the rotor of the homopolar generator to increase its kinetic energy for use in one or more subsequent launchings.

Electromagnetic launcher with post-firing energy recovery for slow or rapid fire operation

An electromagnetic launcher includes a single or multi-polar, multi-phase electrical generator powered by an external source; electrical conductors leading from output coils of the generator and from a center point joining the output coils; a plurality of rails connected to the electrical conductors; and an armature having at least two channels; whereby there is at least one position of the armature along the plurality of rails where current flows simultaneously through both of the at least two channels.

Electromagnetic launcher with pulse-shaping armature and divided rails

A multiple repetitive resonant railgun power supply provides energy for repetitively propelling projectiles from a pair of parallel rails. A plurality of serially connected paired parallel rails are powered by similar power supplies. Each supply comprises an energy storage capacitor, a storage inductor to form a resonant circuit with the energy storage capacitor and a magnetic switch to transfer energy between the resonant circuit and the pair of parallel rails for the propelling of projectiles. The multiple serial operation permits relatively small energy components to deliver overall relatively large amounts of energy to the projectiles being propelled.

Multiple resonant railgun power supply

A repetitive resonant railgun power supply provides energy for repetitively propelling projectiles from a pair of parallel rails. The supply comprises an energy storage capacitor, a storage inductor to form a resonant circuit with the energy storage capacitor and a magnetic switch to transfer energy between the resonant circuit and the pair of parallel rails for the propelling of projectiles.
