Journal ArticleDOI

Heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls in surface sediments of the Naples harbour (southern Italy).

TL;DR: Generally, the concentration of PAHs and PCBs were higher near the sites of intense industrial, shipping and/or commercial activities suggesting a direct influence of these sources on the pollutant distribution patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI

Benthic foraminifera and heavy metals distribution: A case study from the Naples Harbour (Tyrrhenian Sea, Southern Italy)

TL;DR: Compared to the unpolluted marine sediments of the Granili dock, the Levante area shows higher heavy metals levels and a quasi-oligotypic benthic assemblage that is dominated by the tolerant species Ammonia tepida that may be used as bio-indicator of pollution of anthropised marine sediment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stable isotopes and C/N ratios in marine sediments as a tool for discriminating anthropogenic impact†

TL;DR: Effects of oil spilling and wastewater discharge within the area of the harbour of Naples were clearly discriminated thus suggesting high-potential of the two numerical techniques, applied to the C and N elemental and isotopic values, to explore effects of anthropogenic impact in marginal and confined coastal basins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rifted margin formation in the south Tyrrhenian Sea: A high-resolution seismic profile across the north Sicily passive continental margin

TL;DR: A 150 km long seismic line across the continental margin of north Sicily has been acquired and interpreted in this paper, where two main thinned zones are observed in the south in correspondence with the Cefalu basin and farther to the north at the continent-ocean transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Large-scale longitudinal extension in the southern Apennines contractional belt, Italy

TL;DR: In this article, the interior of the peri-Tyrrhenian orogenic belt in the southern Apennines underwent two episodes of nearly orthogonal extension.
