Trends in waiting list registration for liver transplantation for viral hepatitis in the United States.
W. Ray Kim,Norah A. Terrault,Rachel A. Pedersen,Terry M. Therneau,Erick B. Edwards,Andrew A. Hindman,Carol L. Brosgart +6 more
TL;DR: The pattern of liver transplantation waiting list registration among patients with hepatitis B suggests that the widespread application of oral antiviral therapy for HBV contributed to the decreased incidence of decompensated liver disease.
CLINICAL—LIVER, PANCREAS, AND BILIARY TRACT Trends in Waiting List Registration for Liver Transplantation for Viral Hepatitis in the United States
W. Ray Kim,Norah A. Terrault,Rachel A. Pedersen,Terry M. Therneau,Erick B. Edwards,Andrew A. Hindman,Carol L. Brosgart +6 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Transplantation of hepatitis C–positive livers in hepatitis C–positive patients is equivalent to transplanting hepatitis C–negative livers
Carlos E. Marroquin,Gustavo Marino,Paul C. Kuo,Jeffrey S. Plotkin,Vinod K. Rustgi,Amy D. Lu,Erick B. Edwards,Sarah E Taranto,Lynt B. Johnson +8 more
TL;DR: Donor hepatitis C status does not impact on graft or patient survival after liver transplantation for HCV+, and using HCV+ donor livers for transplantation inHCV+ recipients safely and effectively expands the organ donor pool.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kidney, pancreas and liver allocation and distribution in the United States.
Jodi M. Smith,Scott W. Biggins,D. G. Haselby,W. R. Kim,Joel P. Wedd,Kenneth E. Lamb,Bryn Thompson,Dorry L. Segev,Sally K. Gustafson,Raja Kandaswamy,Peter G. Stock,Arthur J. Matas,Ciara J. Samana,E. F. Sleeman,Darren Stewart,Ann M. Harper,Erick B. Edwards,Jon J. Snyder,B. L. Kasiske,Ajay K. Israni +19 more
TL;DR: The history, current status and future direction of policies regarding the allocation of abdominal organs for transplant, namely the kidney, liver and pancreas, in the United States are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Utilization of extended donor criteria liver allograft: Is the elevated risk of failure independent of the model for end-stage liver disease score of the recipient?
TL;DR: The fact that there is no additional impact of ECD livers in recipients with high MELD scores suggests that this group of patients may benefit from this pool of grafts, which expands the organ pool at expense of increased RR of liver failure.
