The Ribosomal Database Project: improved alignments and new tools for rRNA analysis

TL;DR: An improved alignment strategy uses the Infernal secondary structure aware aligner to provide a more consistent higher quality alignment and faster processing of user sequences, and a new Pyrosequencing Pipeline that provides tools to support analysis of ultra high-throughput rRNA sequencing data.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ribosomal database project (RDP-II): introducing myRDP space and quality controlled public data.

TL;DR: Quality analysis, including chimera detection, for all available rRNA sequences and the introduction of myRDP Space, a new web component designed to help researchers place their own data in context with the RDP's data are introduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

New tools for discovering and characterizing microbial diversity

TL;DR: The new tools are reshaping the way the environment is studied, increasing the resolution at which microbial communities, their complexities and dynamics, can be studied to reveal their genetic potential and their functional diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Denitrifying Bacteria from the Genus Rhodanobacter Dominate Bacterial Communities in the Highly Contaminated Subsurface of a Nuclear Legacy Waste Site

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that pH is a major driver of the subsurface microbial community structure and that denitrifying bacteria from the genus Rhodanobacter (class Gammaproteobacteria) dominate at low pH, and pH is confirmed as a dominant driver of bacterial community structure in this contaminated subsurfaced environment.
