Advanced Oxidation Processes for Wastewater Treatment: State of the Art

TL;DR: In this sense, advanced oxidation processes are possibly one of the most effective methods for the treatment of wastewater containing organic products (effluents from chemical and agrochemical industries, the textile industry, paints, dyes, etc.).
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of dissolved oxygen concentration on nitrate removal from groundwater using a denitrifying submerged filter.

TL;DR: The presence of oxygen decreased the removal efficiency of inorganic nitrogen and caused an increase of nitrite concentration in the treated water and the development of the biofilm was influenced by the DO concentration as excess O(2) caused reduced biofilm growth.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative kinetic study between moving bed biofilm reactor-membrane bioreactor and membrane bioreactor systems and their influence on organic matter and nutrients removal

TL;DR: In this paper, the results obtained from three wastewater treatment plants working in parallel are presented, and different tendencies regarding nutrients removal are shown by the three wastewater Treatment plants. And the performances in terms of nitrogen and phosphorus removal of the MBBR-MBR system which contained carriers only in the aerobic zone (67.34±11.22% and 50.65± 11.13%) were slightly better than those obtained from another experimental plants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Removal and degradation characteristics of quinolone antibiotics in laboratory-scale activated sludge reactors under aerobic, nitrifying and anoxic conditions.

TL;DR: The results suggest that despite the known persistence of this group of antibiotics it is possible to enhance their degradation using nitrifying conditions, which at adequate working conditions as high SRT, typical in MBR, become a promising alternative for improving quinolones removal from environment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of hydraulic loading and air flowrate on urban wastewater nitrogen removal with a submerged fixed-film reactor.

TL;DR: This paper studies a nitrification and post-denitrification lab-scale plant with a downflow aerobic submerged filter for removal of organic matter and nitrification, followed by an anoxic upflow biofilter for denitrification, which complied with the EU regulation on nitrogen disposal.
