Abstract: Reaction of dialkylthioketenes with tetracyanoethylene oxide yields dicyanomethylenethiiranes in a sequence involving [3 + 2] cycloaddition, cycloreversion and rearrangement. In contrast, a thioketene with a sulfide moiety reacts preferentially on the latter to give the stable sulfur ylide 9.
