A Single Night of Partial Sleep Deprivation Induces Insulin Resistance in Multiple Metabolic Pathways in Healthy Subjects
Esther Donga,Marieke van Dijk,J. Gert van Dijk,Nienke R. Biermasz,Gert Jan Lammers,Klaas W. van Kralingen,Eleonara P. M. Corssmit,Johannes A. Romijn +7 more
TL;DR: Partial sleep deprivation during only a single night induces insulin resistance in multiple metabolic pathways in healthy subjects and may be of relevance for variations in glucoregulation in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Partial Sleep Restriction Decreases Insulin Sensitivity in Type 1 Diabetes
Esther Donga,Marieke van Dijk,J. Gert van Dijk,Nienke R. Biermasz,Gert Jan Lammers,Klaas W. van Kralingen,Roel P.L.M. Hoogma,Eleonora P M Corssmit,Johannes A. Romijn +8 more
TL;DR: Sleep duration is a determinant of insulin sensitivity in patients with type 1 diabetes, and partial sleep deprivation during a single night induces peripheral insulin resistance in these seven patients withType 1 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sixteen hours of fasting differentially affects hepatic and muscle insulin sensitivity in mice.
A. C. Heijboer,Esther Donga,Peter J. Voshol,Zhi Chao Dang,Louis M. Havekes,Johannes A. Romijn,Eleonora P M Corssmit +6 more
TL;DR: 16 h of fasting does not induce hepatic insulin resistance, although it causes liver steatosis, whereas muscle insulin sensitivity increases without changes in muscle TG content, and fasting induces differential changes in tissue-specific insulin sensitivity, and liver and muscle TG contents are unlikely to be involved in these changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disturbed subjective sleep characteristics in adult patients with long-standing type 1 diabetes mellitus
M. R. van Dijk,Esther Donga,J.G. van Dijk,Gert Jan Lammers,K.W. van Kralingen,Olaf M. Dekkers,Eleonora P M Corssmit,Johannes A. Romijn +7 more
TL;DR: Adult patients with long-standing type 1 diabetes mellitus have disturbed subjective sleep quality and a higher risk for obstructive sleep apnoea compared with control participants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patients Previously Treated for Nonfunctioning Pituitary Macroadenomas Have Disturbed Sleep Characteristics, Circadian Movement Rhythm, and Subjective Sleep Quality
Nienke R. Biermasz,Sjoerd D. Joustra,Esther Donga,Alberto M. Pereira,N. van Duinen,M. van Dijk,A A van der Klaauw,Eleonora P M Corssmit,Gert Jan Lammers,K.W. van Kralingen,J.G. van Dijk,Johannes A. Romijn +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, sleep characteristics during polysomnography and actigraphy in patients previously treated for nonfunctioning macroadenoma were associated with impaired subjective sleep quality.
