Validation and experimental calibration of 3D discrete element models for the simulation of the discharge flow in silos

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed 3D discrete element models capable of simulating the observed flow of glass beads (simple glass spheres) and maize grains (represented as a combination of spheres) during their discharge from a small model silo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three dimensional discrete element models for simulating the filling and emptying of silos: Analysis of numerical results

TL;DR: The results of this analysis highlight the potential of DEM models for studying the behaviour of granular materials in silos and hoppers, provided that simplifications are minimized.
Journal ArticleDOI

New uses for old traditional farm buildings: The case of the underground wine cellars in Spain

TL;DR: The use of traditional wine cellars in the production of high-quality artisanal wines, cheeses and cured meats, for cultural activities, as restaurants, or in production of mushrooms, among others, are viable reuse proposals according to the current needs in the Mediterranean rural areas as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite element analysis under different boundary conditions of the filling of cylindrical steel silos having an eccentric hopper

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional finite element analysis was made of the filling of cylindrical silos having an eccentric hopper, using different boundary conditions, including the options of the presence or absence of reinforcement in the transition and walls.
Journal ArticleDOI

Values for particle-scale properties of biomass briquettes made from agroforestry residues

TL;DR: In this paper, the true density, Young's modulus of elasticity (axial and radial), particle-particle restitution coefficient and the particle-wall friction coefficient were determined for briquettes made from maize stalk, maize stalk plus pine wood chips, rice husk, vine shoots, rape straw, cereal straw and sawdust plus cereal straw.
