Journal ArticleDOI
Possible influence of reared gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata, L.) on wild stocks in the area of the Messolonghi lagoon (Ionian Sea, Greece)
Evagelos Dimitriou,George Katselis,Dimitrios K. Moutopoulos,Constantin Akovitiotis,Constantin Koutsikopoulos +4 more
TL;DR: The rapid expansion of aquaculture is accompanied by an increasedawareness concerning the impact of¢sh rearing on the environment, which masks the potential environmental conse-quences on the coastal zone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fjord water circulation patterns and dysoxic/anoxic conditions in a Mediterranean semi-enclosed embayment in the Amvrakikos Gulf, Greece
George Ferentinos,George Papatheodorou,Maria Geraga,Margarita Iatrou,Elias Fakiris,Dimitris Christodoulou,Evagelos Dimitriou,Constantin Koutsikopoulos +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Amvrakikos Gulf is characterized by a well-stratified two layer structure in the water column made up of a surface layer and a bottom layer that are separated by a strong pycnocline.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-term seaward fish migration in the Messolonghi Etoliko lagoons (Western Greek coast) in relation to climatic variables and the lunar cycle
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the daily seaward migratory behaviour of four dominant euryhaline fish species (Mugilidae: Liza saliens, Liza aurata, Mugil cephalus and Sparidae: Sparus aurata) in the Messolonghi-Etoliko lagoon system (Western Greek coast) based on the daily landings' time series of barrier traps and assessed the relationship between their migratory behavior and various climatic variables (air temperature and atmospheric pressure) and the lunar cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
A model to estimate the annual production of roes (avgotaracho) of flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus) based on the spawning migration of species
George Katselis,Constantin Koutsikopoulos,Yiannis Rogdakis,Thanasis Lachanas,Evagelos Dimitriou,Kosmas Vidalis +5 more
TL;DR: The seaward spawning migration of the flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus L, Pisces: Mugilidae) from daily landings caught by fish traps in the Paleopotamos lagoon and their relationship with the annual production of avgotaracho (dried, salted and waxed ripe ovaries) were studied in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term changes of fisheries landings in enclosed gulf lagoons (Amvrakikos gulf, W Greece): Influences of fishing and other human impacts
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed long-term annual fishery landings time series (1980-2007) for species derived from six lagoons (covering about 70 km 2 ) around an important European wetland, the fjord-like Amvrakikos gulf.
