Journal ArticleDOI
Narrow positron lines from U-U and U-Th collisions☆
TL;DR: Spectra of positrons emitted in heavy-ion-atom collisions close to the Coulomb barrier were measured in this article, and the data exhibit broad energy distributions according to expectations for induced positron creation by the strong time-changing Coulomb field.
Journal ArticleDOI
First observation of bound-state beta - decay.
M. Jung,F. Bosch,K. Beckert,H. Eickhoff,H. Folger,B. Franzke,A. Gruber,P. Kienle,O. Klepper,W. Koenig,C. Kozhuharov,Rido Mann,R. Moshammer,F. Nolden,U. Schaaf,Gerhard Soff,P. Spädtke,M. Steck,Th. Stöhlker,K. Sümmerer +19 more
TL;DR: Bound-state {beta}{sup {minus}} decay was observed for the fist time by storing bare bare {sub 66}{sup 163}Dy{sup 66+} ions in a heavy-ion storage ring and bounds for both the value of neutral {sub 67}Ho and for the electron-neutrino mass were set.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantum electrodynamics in strong electric fields: the ground-state Lamb shift in hydrogenlike uranium.
A. Gumberidze,Th. Stöhlker,Dariusz Banaś,K. Beckert,P. Beller,H. F. Beyer,F. Bosch,S. Hagmann,Ch. Kozhuharov,Dieter Liesen,F. Nolden,X. L. Ma,P. H. Mokler,M. Steck,D. Sierpowski,Stanislav Tashenov +15 more
TL;DR: The present result is about 3 times more precise than the most accurate value available up to now and provides the most stringent test of bound-state quantum electrodynamics for one-electron systems in the strong-field regime.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of Bound-State β - Decay of Fully Ionized 187 Re: 187 Re- 187 Os Cosmochronometry
F. Bosch,T. Faestermann,J. Friese,F. Heine,Paul Kienle,E. Wefers,Karl Zeitelhack,K. Beckert,B. Franzke,O. Klepper,C. Kozhuharov,G. Menzel,R. Moshammer,F. Nolden,H. Reich,B. Schlitt,M. Steck,Thomas Stöhlker,T. Winkler,K. Takahashi,K. Takahashi +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the decay of fully ionized Re nuclei circulating in a storage ring has been observed and a half-life of $32.03$ has been calculated, to be compared with 42 Gyr for neutral Re atoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
First isochronous mass spectrometry at the experimental storage ring ESR
Marc Hausmann,F. Attallah,K. Beckert,F. Bosch,A. Dolinskiy,H. Eickhoff,M. Falch,Bernhard Franczak,B. Franzke,Hans Geissel,Th. Kerscher,O. Klepper,H.-J. Kluge,Ch. Kozhuharov,K. E. G. Löbner,G. Münzenberg,F. Nolden,Yu. N. Novikov,Torsten Radon,Hendrik Schatz,C. Scheidenberger,J. Stadlmann,M. Steck,T. Winkler,Hermann Wollnik +24 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an isochronous operational mode of the ESR has been investigated to make mass measurements of nuclides with lifetimes down to a few ls feasible.
