Journal ArticleDOI

Ongoing spread of colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in different wards of an acute general hospital, Italy, June to December 2011.

TL;DR: Cross-transmission containment measures and intensification of staff and environmental hygiene could not stop the outbreak, and selective pressure and horizontal transmission probably contributed to emergence and spread of three different strains of colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae in the hospital.
Journal ArticleDOI

Is the monoclonal spread of the ST258, KPC-3-producing clone being replaced in southern Italy by the dissemination of multiple clones of carbapenem-nonsusceptible, KPC-3-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae?

TL;DR: This paper presents a meta-analysis of six studies conducted at the postgraduate specialty school in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Palermo in 2015 that confirmed the importance of knowing the carrier and removal of canine coronavirus in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance analysis of two immunochromatographic assays for the diagnosis of rotavirus infection.

TL;DR: Both CerTest and VIKIA were able to detect the wide range of RVA genotypes circulating over the study period and showed a satisfactory efficacy of the two diagnostic tests analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular characterisation and clonal analysis of group A streptococci causing pharyngitis among paediatric patients in Palermo, Italy

TL;DR: Group A streptococci isolated consecutively from paediatric patients with pharyngitis from Palermo, Italy, were analysed, suggesting that the spread of mobile antibiotic resistance genes among the fittest clones in the community was the main mechanism influencing macrolide resistance rates in different emm types.
