Inventory of the non‐native flora of Italy
Laura Celesti-Grapow,A. Alessandrini,Pier Virgilio Arrigoni,Enrico Banfi,Liliana Bernardo,M. Bovio,Giuseppe Brundu,M. R. Cagiotti,Ignazio Camarda,Emanuela Carli,Fabio Conti,Simonetta Fascetti,Gabriele Galasso,L. Gubellini,V. La Valva,Fernando Lucchese,S. Marchiori,Pietro Mazzola,Simonetta Peccenini,Livio Poldini,F. Pretto,Filippo Prosser,Consolata Siniscalco,Mariacristina Villani,Lucia Viegi,T. Wilhalm,Carlo Blasi +26 more
TL;DR: By combining local expertise into a unified, nationwide scheme using a standardized method and terminology, the inventory provides the essential scientific basis for the development of plant invasion research and management in the country.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non‐native flora of Italy: Species distribution and threats
Laura Celesti-Grapow,A. Alessandrini,Pier Virgilio Arrigoni,Silvia Paola Assini,Enrico Banfi,Elena Barni,M. Bovio,Giuseppe Brundu,M. R. Cagiotti,Ignazio Camarda,E. Carli,Fabio Conti,E. Pretto,Filippo Prosser,M. Vidali,Lucia Viegi,Mariacristina Villani,T. Wilhalm,Carlo Blasi +28 more
TL;DR: In this article, an overview of the distribution and invasive status of non-native species in the Italian flora across its administrative regions, biogeographic regions and main land use types, and a synthesis of current knowledge on the threats they pose within the country is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plant invasions on small Mediterranean islands: An overview
Laura Celesti-Grapow,L. Bassi,Giuseppe Brundu,Ignazio Camarda,E. Carli,Giuseppe D’Auria,E. Del Guacchio,Gianniantonio Domina,Giulio Ferretti,Bruno Foggi,Lorenzo Lazzaro,Pietro Mazzola,Simonetta Peccenini,F. Pretto,Adriano Stinca,Carlo Blasi +15 more
TL;DR: An overview of the present-day non-native vascular flora of small Mediterranean islands based on a sample of 37 islands located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Italy confirms that plant invasions on Mediterranean islands are a serious environmental problem that threatens biodiversity conservation not only in the Mediterranean biogeographic region, but also on the global scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of non-native plant species richness and composition across small Mediterranean islands
TL;DR: High human pressure and ornamental introductions associated with tourist activities appear to be the key elements that need to be considered when planning strategies aimed at managing plant invasions in Mediterranean islands.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of past land use and current human disturbance on non-native plant species on small Italian islands
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the current level of invasion of alien plant species in semi-natural vegetation types that have developed after the abandonment of agriculture and analyze the relationships between non-native species, native flora, and environmental characteristics.
