Epidural Analgesia Is Associated with Improved Health Outcomes of Surgical Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Felix van Lier,Patrick J. van der Geest,Sanne E. Hoeks,Yvette R.B.M. van Gestel,Jaap Willem Hol,Don D. Sin,Robert Jan Stolker,Don Poldermans +7 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that in patients with COPD who are scheduled for major abdominal surgery, epidural analgesia decreases postoperative pulmonary complications and the strongest preventive effect was seen in Patients with the most severe type of COPD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postoperative Hypotension after Noncardiac Surgery and the Association with Myocardial Injury
Victor G B Liem,Sanne E. Hoeks,Kristin H. J. M. Mol,Jan Willem Potters,Frank Grüne,Robert Jan Stolker,Felix van Lier +6 more
TL;DR: In this study, postoperative hypotension was common and was independently associated with myocardial injury, and myocardia injury (peak high sensitivity Troponin T 50 ng/l or greater) was associated with higher prolonged durations for all of the mean arterial pressure thresholds investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidural Analgesia Is Associated With Improved Health Outcomes of Surgical Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Felix van Lier,Patrick J. van der Geest,Sanne E. Hoeks,Yvette R.B.M. van Gestel,Jaap Willem Hol,Don D. Sin,Robert Jan Stolker,Don Poldermans +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors found evidence that in patients with COPD who are scheduled for major abdominal surgery, epidural analgesia decreases postoperative pulmonary complications, including postoperative pneumonia and 30-day mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of chronic beta-blocker use on stroke after noncardiac surgery.
Felix van Lier,Olaf Schouten,Ron T. van Domburg,Patrick J. van der Geest,Eric Boersma,Lee A. Fleisher,Don Poldermans +6 more
TL;DR: The present case-control study has shown no increased risk of postoperative stroke in patients taking chronic beta-blocker therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perioperative strokes and β-blockade
Don Poldermans,Olaf Schouten,Felix van Lier,Sanne E. Hoeks,Louis L. M. van de Ven,Robert Jan Stolker,Lee A. Fleisher +6 more
TL;DR: Findings might have implications on perioperative -blocker use, not only for initiation of therapy before surgery in -blockers naive patients but also whether or not to continue throughout surgery, focusing on noncardiac surgery.
