The invention relates to a protective cover for an input device. A method includes forming one or more holes in a flexible fabric layer, infusing polyurethane (PU) clay into the molding tool to form one or more PU key caps, and placing a flexible fabric layer over the molding tool, wherein the one or more holes can be aligned with the one or more PU key caps. The key caps can be jointed with the fabric layer through applying heat and pressure above the fabric. The method can include placing a first layer of paint in the molding tool, placing a second layer of paint above the first layer of paint in the molding tool, and etching a portion of the one or more PU key caps through a laser etch process to remove a corresponding portion of the first layer of paint such that a portion of the second layer of paint is exposed. In some cases, the exposed portion of the second layer can be illuminated by the light source, which can be directed to the key cap by a light guide.

An AR/VR input device include a processor(s), an internal measurement unit (IMU), and a plurality of sensors configured to detect emissions received from a plurality of remote emitters. The processor(s) can be configured to: determine a time-of-flight (TOF) of the detected emissions, determine a first estimate of a position and orientation of the input device based on the TOF of a subset of the detected emissions and the particular locations of each of the plurality of sensors on the input device that are detecting the detected emissions, determine a second estimate of the position and orientation of the input device based on the measured acceleration and velocity from the IMU, and continuously update a calculated position and orientation of the input device within the AR/VR environment in real-time based on a Beyesian estimation (e.g., Extended Kalman filter) that utilizes the first estimate and second estimate.

Some embodiments include a protective cover for a mobile display device. The protective cover includes a housing, a backplane, a liner, and a lip. The housing includes an outer portion and an inner portion, wherein the outer portion of the housing has a rectangular frame structure to provide a protective shell along an outer edge of the mobile display device, and wherein the inner portion receives and secures the mobile display device. The backplane is comprised of a rigid material and is coupled to a backside of the housing and provides a protective shell along a back side of the mobile display device. The liner has a corrugated soft rubber or polymer construction including a successive pattern of protrusions separated by a distance and is coupled to the inner portion of the housing. The lip is coupled to a front side of the housing to retain the mobile display device within the housing.
