Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence that the v-sis gene product transforms by interaction with the receptor for platelet-derived growth factor.
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that SSV-transforming activity is mediated by the interaction of a virus-coded mitogen with PDGF receptors, and viral infection of a variety of cell types revealed a strict correlation between those cells possessing PD GF receptors and those susceptible to transformation by SSV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cloning and disruption of the antigenic catalase gene of Aspergillus fumigatus.
José Antonio Calera,Sophie Paris,M Monod,A J Hamilton,J P Debeaupuis,M. Diaquin,R López-Medrano,Fernando Leal,Jean-Paul Latgé +8 more
TL;DR: Cat1-disrupted mutants that were unable to produce the slow catalase were as sensitive to H2O2 and polymorphonuclear cells as the wild-type strain and there was no difference in pathogenicity between the cat1 mutant and its parental cat1+ strain in a murine model of aspergillosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The v-sis/PDGF-2 transforming gene product localizes to cell membranes but is not a secretory protein.
TL;DR: Findings define possible cellular locations where the transforming activity of the sis‐PDGF‐2 protein may be exerted and suggest this growth factor‐related transforming gene product is not a classical secretory protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
The regulation of zinc homeostasis by the ZafA transcriptional activator is essential for Aspergillus fumigatus virulence.
Miguel Moreno,Oumaïma Ibrahim-Granet,Rocío Vicentefranqueira,Jorge Amich,Patrick Ave,Fernando Leal,Jean-Paul Latgé,José Antonio Calera +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that ZafA is a zinc‐responsive transcriptional activator that represents an essential attribute for A.’fumigatus pathogenicity and may constitute a new target for the development of chemotherapeutic agents against Aspergillus, because no zafA orthologues have been found in mammals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermally induced conformational changes in horseradish peroxidase.
David G. Pina,Anna V. Shnyrova,Francisco Gavilanes,Anabel Rodríguez,Fernando Leal,Manuel G. Roig,Ivan Yu. Sakharov,Galina G. Zhadan,Enrique Villar,Shnyrov Vl +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the process of HRPc denaturation can be interpreted with sufficient accuracy in terms of the simple kinetic scheme N -->k D where k is a first-order kinetic constant that changes with temperature, as given by the Arrhenius equation.
