Journal ArticleDOI
Composition and Associations of the Infant Gut Fungal Microbiota with Environmental Factors and Childhood Allergic Outcomes.
Rozlyn C.T. Boutin,Hind Sbihi,Hind Sbihi,Ryan J. McLaughlin,Aria S. Hahn,Kishori M Konwar,Rachelle Loo,Darlene L.Y. Dai,Charisse Petersen,Fiona S. L. Brinkman,Geoffrey L. Winsor,Malcolm R. Sears,Theo J Moraes,Allan B. Becker,Meghan B. Azad,Piush J. Mandhane,Padmaja Subbarao,Stuart E. Turvey,B. Brett Finlay +18 more
TL;DR: The authors used a logistic regression model to predict atopy status at 5 years of age with 81% accuracy, using a set of early-life environmental factors in combination with fungal community composition at 1 year of age.
Journal ArticleDOI
ProbeLynx: a tool for updating the association of microarray probes to genes
Fiona M. Roche,Karsten Hokamp,Michael Acab,Lorne A. Babiuk,Robert E. W. Hancock,Fiona S. L. Brinkman +5 more
TL;DR: ProbeLynx is a new web service which uses current genomic sequence information to re-examine microarray probe specificity and provide annotation updates relevant to determining which gene(s) and transcript(S) are associated with a given probe.
Journal ArticleDOI
G-protein-coupled receptor independent, immunomodulatory properties of chemokine CXCL9.
Jiang-Hong Gong,Erin F. Nicholls,Melissa Elliott,Kelly L. Brown,Karsten Hokamp,Fiona M. Roche,Charles Y.K. Cheung,Reza Falsafi,Fiona S. L. Brinkman,Dawn M. E. Bowdish,Robert E. W. Hancock +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CXCL9 has immunomodulatory functions that are not mediated through a G-protein coupled receptor and may possess additional roles in host defenses against infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of Legionella Species from Watersheds in British Columbia, Canada
Michael A. Peabody,Jason A. Caravas,Shatavia S. Morrison,Jeffrey W. Mercante,Natalie Prystajecky,Brian H. Raphael,Fiona S. L. Brinkman +6 more
TL;DR: The presence and diversity of legionellae are investigated through 16S rRNA gene amplicon and metagenomic sequencing of DNA from isolates collected from seven sites in three watersheds with varied land uses over a period of 1 year, indicating that a highly diverse population of Legionella may be found in a variety of natural aquatic sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time course of hepatic gene expression and plasma vitellogenin protein concentrations in estrone-exposed juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
Heather L. Osachoff,Lorraine L.Y. Brown,Leena Tirrul,Graham van Aggelen,Fiona S. L. Brinkman,Christopher J. Kennedy +5 more
TL;DR: Estrone (E1), a natural estrogen hormone found in sewage effluents and surface waters, has known endocrine disrupting effects in fish, thus, it is a contaminant of emerging concern and was a good indicator of E1 exposure.
