Microorganisms are known to be natural oil producers in their cellular compartments. Microorganisms that accumulate more than 20% w/w of lipids on a cell dry weight basis are considered as oleaginous microorganisms. These are capable of synthesizing vast majority of fatty acids from short hydrocarbonated chain (C6) to long hydrocarbonated chain (C36), which may be saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA), or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), depending on the presence and number of double bonds in hydrocarbonated chains. Depending on the fatty acid profile, the oils obtained from oleaginous microorganisms are utilized as feedstock for either biodiesel production or as nutraceuticals. Mainly microalgae, bacteria, and yeasts are involved in the production of biodiesel, whereas thraustochytrids, fungi, and some of the microalgae are well known to be producers of very long-chain PUFA (omega-3 fatty acids). In this review article, the type of oleaginous microorganisms and their expertise in the field of biodiesel or omega-3 fatty acids, advances in metabolic engineering tools for enhanced lipid accumulation, upstream and downstream processing of lipids, including purification of biodiesel and concentration of omega-3 fatty acids are reviewed.

Microbial biodiesel production from industrial organic wastes by oleaginous microorganisms: Current status and prospects

We conduct the first large-scale analysis of the accessibility of mobile apps, examining what unique insights this can provide into the state of mobile app accessibility. We analyzed 5,753 free Android apps for label-based accessibility barriers in three classes of image-based buttons: Clickable Images, Image Buttons, and Floating Action Buttons. An epidemiology-inspired framework was used to structure the investigation. The population of free Android apps was assessed for label-based inaccessible button diseases. Three determinants of the disease were considered: missing labels, duplicate labels, and uninformative labels. The prevalence, or frequency of occurrences of barriers, was examined in apps and in classes of image-based buttons. In the app analysis, 35.9% of analyzed apps had 90% or more of their assessed image-based buttons labeled, 45.9% had less than 10% of assessed image-based buttons labeled, and the remaining apps were relatively uniformly distributed along the proportion of elements that were labeled. In the class analysis, 92.0% of Floating Action Buttons were found to have missing labels, compared to 54.7% of Image Buttons and 86.3% of Clickable Images. We discuss how these accessibility barriers are addressed in existing treatments, including accessibility development guidelines.

Examining Image-Based Button Labeling for Accessibility in Android Apps through Large-Scale Analysis

The use of interactive technologies to aid in the implementation of smart cities has a significant potential to support disabled users in performing their activities as citizens. In this study, we present an investigation of the accessibility of a sample of 10 mobile Android™ applications of Brazilian municipalities, two from each of the five big geographical regions of the country, focusing especially on users with visual disabilities. The results showed that many of the applications were not in accordance with accessibility guidelines, with an average of 57 instances of violations and an average of 11.6 different criteria violated per application. The main problems included issues like not addressing labelling of non-textual content, headings, identifying user location, colour contrast, enabling users to interact using screen reader gestures, focus visibility and lack of adaptation of text contained in image. Although the growth in mobile applications for has boosted the possibilities aligned with the principles of smart cities, there is a strong need for including accessibility in the design of such applications in order for disabled people to benefit from the potential they can have for their lives.

Identifying a set of methods to be applied specifically for game accessibility evaluation is a relevant issue to boost and enable further research in the field To fulfill this objective, we defined five research questions and conducted a literature survey based on snowballing technique To gather the studies in our survey, we defined a start set of works to serve as ground for the review and performed searches using references and citations of these studies We found a set of accessibility evaluation methods focused on game accessibility and how they can be classified according to ISO standards We also found that methods focused on mobile game context still need to be better explored because only a few evidences were retrieved regarding such a domain Besides traditional accessibility aspects as barriers and users’ satisfaction, results show that distinct game aspects are considered during game accessibility evaluations In addition, the most part of works refers to evaluation of exergames or games related to users’ mobility Studies also refer to evaluations regarding more than one category of impairment, especially motor and visual impairments Future researches in the field should focus on inspection-based methods, because traditional user-based methods have been largely referred as applicable to game accessibility context

A Preliminary Analysis of Communication Preferences in a Global Software Development Environment

Data centers are widely recognized for demanding many energy resources. The greater the computational demand, the greater the use of resources operating together. Consequently, the greater the heat, the greater the need for cooling power, and the greater the energy consumption. In this context, this article aims to report an industrial experience of achieving energy efficiency in a data center through a new layout proposal, reuse of previously existing resources, and air conditioning. We used the primary resource to adopt a cold corridor confinement, the increase of the raised floor’s height, and a better direction of the cold airflow for the aspiration at the servers’ entrance. We reused the three legacy refrigeration machines from the old data center, and no new ones were purchased. In addition to 346 existing devices, 80 new pieces of equipment were added (between servers and network assets) as a load to be cooled. Even with the increase in the amount of equipment, the implementations contributed to energy efficiency compared to the old data center, still reducing approximately 41% of the temperature and, consequently, energy-saving.
