Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy Accurately Stages the Regional Lymph Nodes for T1-T2 Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas: Results of a Prospective Multi-Institutional Trial
Francisco J. Civantos,Robert P. Zitsch,David E. Schuller,Amit Agrawal,Russell B. Smith,Richard Nason,Guy Petruzelli,Christine G. Gourin,Richard J. Wong,Robert L. Ferris,Adel K. El Naggar,John A. Ridge,Randal C. Paniello,Kouros Owzar,Linda M. McCall,Douglas B. Chepeha,Wendell G. Yarbrough,Jeffrey N. Myers +17 more
TL;DR: For T1 or T2 N0 oral squamous cell carcinoma, SLNB with step sectioning and immunohistochemistry, performed by surgeons of mixed experience levels, correctly predicted a pathologically negative neck in 96% of patients (NPV, 96%).
Journal ArticleDOI
Finasteride and High-Grade Prostate Cancer in the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial
M. Scott Lucia,Jonathan I. Epstein,Phyllis J. Goodman,Amy K. Darke,Victor E. Reuter,Francisco J. Civantos,Catherine M. Tangen,Howard L. Parnes,Scott M. Lippman,Francisco G. La Rosa,Michael W. Kattan,E. David Crawford,Leslie G. Ford,Charles A. Coltman,Ian M. Thompson +14 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that high-grade cancer was detected earlier and was less extensive in the finasteride group than in the placebo group, and effects of finasterid on prostate volume and selective inhibition of low- grade cancer, rather than effects on tumor morphology, may have contributed to the increase in high- grade cancers with finasterides in the PCPT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small cell carcinoma of the bladder and prostate
TL;DR: The present review was undertaken to discuss the current concepts of histogenesis and to analyze the existing data on the pathologic characteristics, clinical behavior, and treatment response of SCC of the bladder and prostate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Positive surgical margins with radical prostatectomy: detailed pathological analysis and prognosis
TL;DR: Although more frequent at the prostatic apex, tumor at the inked margin at any location is a risk factor for postoperative biochemical progression, with tumor volume and grade as the most significant predictors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sentinel node biopsy in oral cavity cancer: correlation with PET scan and immunohistochemistry.
Francisco J. Civantos,Carmen Gomez,Carlos S. Duque,Felipe E. Pedroso,William Goodwin,Donald T. Weed,David Arnold,Frederick L. Moffat +7 more
TL;DR: Lymphoscintigraphy and sentinel node biopsy (LS/SNB) is a minimally invasive technique that samples first‐echelon lymph nodes to predict the need for more extensive neck dissection.
