Evolution of Eolian arc volcanism (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)

TL;DR: The Eolian arc is located at the boundary between the converging African and European plates and its volcanism is characterized by a marked evolution in a restricted time (less than 1 my). A progressive transition is observed from typical calc-alkaline series toward shoshonitic rocks produced by past and present activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Volcanism of the southern Tyrrhenian Sea and its geodynamic implications

TL;DR: In this article, the existence of calc-alkaline compressive volcanism (Eolian Islands) and basaltic distensive volcanic activity (the abyssal plain, eastern Sicily, Ustica, and the Strait of Sicily) was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Volcanism of Afar: Small-scale plate tectonics implications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify structures analogous to oceanic spreading ridges, transform faults, and leaky fracture zones in Afar, which were formed during the past 3 to 4 m.y.
Journal ArticleDOI

The campanian ignimbrite: a major prehistoric eruption in the Neapolitan area (Italy)

TL;DR: A geological, chemical and petrographical study of the Campanian ignimbrite, a pyroclastic flow deposit erupted about 30,000 years ago on the Neapolitan area (Italy) is reported in this paper.
