Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Diagnosis of Primary Aldosteronism, Including Surgically Correctable Forms, in Centers from Five Continents
Paolo Mulatero,Michael Stowasser,Keh Chuan Loh,Carlos E. Fardella,Richard D. Gordon,Lorena Mosso,Celso E. Gomez-Sanchez,Franco Veglio,William F. Young +8 more
TL;DR: The wide use of the ARR as a screening test in hypertensive patients led to a marked increase in the detection rate of primary aldosteronism, which was previously believed to account for less than 1% of hypertensives.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular events and target organ damage in primary aldosteronism compared with essential hypertension: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Silvia Monticone,Fabrizio D'Ascenzo,Claudio Moretti,Tracy Ann Williams,Tracy Ann Williams,Franco Veglio,Fiorenzo Gaita,Paolo Mulatero +7 more
TL;DR: The association between primary aldosteronism and adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events, target organ damage, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, compared with the association of essential hypertension was assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and Clinical Manifestations of Primary Aldosteronism Encountered in Primary Care Practice
Silvia Monticone,Jacopo Burrello,Davide Tizzani,Chiara Bertello,A. Viola,Fabrizio Buffolo,Luisa Gabetti,Giulio Mengozzi,Tracy Ann Williams,Franco Rabbia,Franco Veglio,Paolo Mulatero +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that PA is a frequent cause of secondary hypertension, even in the general population of patients with hypertension, and indicates that most of these patients should be screened for PA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Drug Effects on Aldosterone/Plasma Renin Activity Ratio in Primary Aldosteronism
Paolo Mulatero,Franco Rabbia,Alberto Milan,Cristina Paglieri,Fulvio Morello,Livio Chiandussi,Franco Veglio +6 more
TL;DR: Primary aldosteronism is a specifically treatable and potentially curable form of secondary hypertension and the aldosterone/plasma renin activity ratio (ARR) is routinely used as a screening test.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and Characteristics of the Metabolic Syndrome in Primary Aldosteronism
Francesco Fallo,Franco Veglio,Chiara Bertello,Nicoletta Sonino,Paolo Della Mea,Mario Ermani,Franco Rabbia,Giovanni Federspil,Paolo Mulatero +8 more
TL;DR: A negative effect of aldosterone excess on glucose metabolism is confirmed and the recently reported higher rates of cardiovascular events in primary aldosteronism than in essential hypertension might be due to increased prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in the former condition.
