Longitudinal Evaluation of the Efficacy of Heat Treatment Procedures against Legionella spp. in Hospital Water Systems by Using a Flow Cytometric Assay
Séverine Allegra,Florence Grattard,Françoise Girardot,Serge Riffard,Bruno Pozzetto,Philippe Berthelot +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that Legionella strains can become heat resistant after heating treatments for a long time and that flow cytometry could be helpful to check the efficacy of heat treatments on Legionella spp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Viable but Not Culturable Forms of Legionella pneumophila Generated After Heat Shock Treatment Are Infectious for Macrophage-Like and Alveolar Epithelial Cells After Resuscitation on Acanthamoeba polyphaga
Thibaut Epalle,Françoise Girardot,Séverine Allegra,Cécile Maurice-Blanc,Olivier Garraud,Serge Riffard +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that heat-generated VBNC forms of L. pneumophila are not infectious for macrophage-like or alveolar epithelial cells in vitro although resuscitation is still possible using amoeba, and may become infectious for human cell lines following a previous interaction with A. polyphaga.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of aerosols containing Legionella generated upon nebulization.
Séverine Allegra,Lara Leclerc,Pierre André Massard,Françoise Girardot,Serge Riffard,Jérémie Pourchez +5 more
TL;DR: The size of the aerosols and the concentration of viable Legionella forms that may reach the thoracic region can be used to standardize the size of inoculum injected in any type of respiratory tract model to obtain new insights into the dose response for LD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monitoring of Legionella pneumophila viability after chlorine dioxide treatment using flow cytometry.
Pascale Mustapha,Thibaut Epalle,Séverine Allegra,Françoise Girardot,Olivier Garraud,Serge Riffard +5 more
TL;DR: Three Legionella pneumophila strains were monitored after chlorine dioxide (ClO2) treatment using a flow cytometric assay and two of the strains were resuscitated after co-culture with Acanthamoeba polyphaga, but neither of them could infect macrophage-like cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of an immunomagnetic separation assay in combination with cultivation to improve Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 recovery from environmental samples
Séverine Allegra,Françoise Girardot,Florence Grattard,Philippe Berthelot,Jürgen H. Helbig,Bruno Pozzetto,Serge Riffard +6 more
TL;DR: To improve Legionella pneumophila recovery from complex water samples (water from cooling towers, biofilms), an immunomagnetic separation (IMS) assay is evaluated using a monoclonal antibody raised against the lipopolysaccharide of Leg.
