TL;DR: It is shown that parasites have substantial biomass in these ecosystems and that the annual production of free-swimming trematode transmission stages was greater than the combined biomass of all quantified parasites and was also greater than bird biomass.
Journal ArticleDOI
How large is the hand in the puppet? Ecological and evolutionary factors affecting body mass of 15 trematode parasitic castrators in their snail host
TL;DR: It is suggested that ecological constraints and life history trade-offs between reproduction and survival influence the mass of these very large parasites.
