A credit card system is provided which has the added feature of providing additional limited use credit card numbers and/or cards. These numbers and/or cards can be used for a single or limited use transaction, thereby reducing the potential for fraudulent reuse of these numbers and/or cards. The credit card system finds application to “card remote” transactions such as by phone or Internet. Additionally, when a single use or limited use credit card is used for “card present” transactions, so called “skimming” fraud is eliminated. Various other features enhance the credit card system, which will allow secure trade without the use of elaborate encryption techniques. Methods for limiting, distributing and using a limited use card number, controlling the validity of a limited use credit card number, conducting a limited use credit card number transaction and providing remote access devices for accessing a limited use credit card number are also provided.

A method for providing unequal allocation of rights among agents while operating according to fair principles, comprising assigning a hierarchal rank to each agent; providing a synthetic economic value to a first set of agents at the a high level of the hierarchy; allocating portions of the synthetic economic value by the first set of agents to a second set of agents at respectively different hierarchal rank than the first set of agents; and conducting an auction amongst agents using the synthetic economic value as the currency. A method for allocation among agents, comprising assigning a wealth generation function for generating future wealth to each of a plurality of agents, communicating subjective market information between agents, and transferring wealth generated by the secure wealth generation function between agents in consideration of a market transaction. The method may further comprise the step of transferring at least a portion of the wealth generation function between agents.

Multifactorial optimization system and method

The interactive authentication system allows a consumer to interact with a base station, such as broadcast media (e.g., television and radio) or PC, to receive coupons, special sales offers, and other information with an electronic card. The electronic card can also be used to transmit a signal that can be received by the base station to perform a wide variety of tasks. These tasks can include launching an application, authenticating a user at a website, and completing a sales transaction at a website (e.g., by filling out a form automatically). The interaction between the base station and the electronic card is accomplished by using the conventional sound system in the base station so that a special reader hardware need not be installed to interact with the electronic card. The user is equipped with an electronic card that can receive and transmit data via sound waves. In the various embodiments, the sound waves can be audible or ultrasonic (which can be slightly audible to some groups of people).

Physical presence digital authentication system

The Customer Activated Multi-Value (CAM) card provides a customer with a primary use as a transaction card which can be further activated to have a secondary use as a credit card. The CAM card can be activated as a transaction card or as a transaction card with a credit card feature. Activation of the CAM card as a transaction card allows the customer to purchase goods and services from one specific vendor and to establish a relationship with that vendor for the goods or services rendered (for example, telephone calling card or gasoline product purchasing card) while enjoying reward benefits based on those to purchases. Activation of the credit feature of the card allows the customer to interact with any merchant that accepts traditional credit cards such as VISA®, MASTERCARD®, AMERICAN EXPRESS®, or DISCOVER®. The combination of features allows a customer to purchase various goods and services from several different merchants. If the customer chooses to activate the CAM card as both a transaction card and a credit card, the customer is given the benefit of using the card in both manners described above.

Customer activated multi-value (CAM) card

A payment authentication service authenticates the identity of a payer during online transactions. The authentication service allows a card issuer to verify a cardholder's (110) identity using a variety of authentication methods, such as with the use of tokens. Authenticating the identity of a cardholder (110) during an online transaction involves querying an access control server to determine if a cardholder (110) is enrolled in the payment authentication service, requesting a password from the cardholder, verifying the password, and notifying a merchant whether the cardholder's (110) authenticity has been verified. Systems for imp lementing the authentication service in which a cardholder (110) uses a mobile device capable of transmitting messages via the Internet are described. Systems for implementing the authentication service in which a cardholder (110) uses a mobile device capable of transmitting messages through voice and messaging channels is also described.

A client module on a client terminal (204) controls the interaction with a consumer and interfaces to a card reader (210) which accepts the consumer's smart card (5) and allows loading and debiting of the card. Debiting works in conjunction with a merchant server (208) and a payment server (206). Loading works in conjunction with a bank server (860) and a load server (862). The Internet provides the routing functionality between the client terminal and the various servers. A payment server (206) on the Internet includes a computer and a security module (or a security card (218) in a terminal (214)) to handle the transaction, data store and collection. A merchant server (208) advertises the goods and/or services offered by a merchant for sale on a web site. The merchant contracts with an acquirer to accept smart card payments for goods and/or services purchased over the Internet. A consumer uses his smart card (5) at the client terminal (204) in oder to purchase goods and/or services from the remote merchant server (208). The client terminal sends a draw request to the payment server. The payment server processes, confirms and replies to the merchant server (optionally by way of the client terminal). To load value, the client terminal (204) requests a load from a user account at the bank server (860). A load request is sent from the card (5) to the load server (862) which processes, confirms and replies to the bank server (optionally by way of the client terminal). The bank transfers loaded funds to the card issuer (108) for later settlement for a merchant from whom the user purchases goods with value on the card.
