Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosensitive recording material, the color developability of the printing part of which is favorable, in the non-printing part of which fogging (coloring of a ground part) develops hardly, which has very excellent water resistance, resistance to lubricant and resistance to plasticizer since just after manufacturing even under the condition that a layer made of PVA is dried in low temperature ranging from room temperature up to about 50°C. SOLUTION: This thermosensitive recording material has a specified silicic structural unit and, at the same time, includes a composition consisting of a 1-20 mol% of ethylene unit-containing vinyl alcohol-base polymer (A), a zirconium compound (B) and/or colloidal silica (C). Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an aqueous emulsion which has excellent water resistance and freeze/thaw stability, is excellent in polymerization stability even at low viscosity, and is excellent in storage stability. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an aqueous emulsion is characterized in that a vinyl ester monomer is subjected to emulsion polymerization wherein (1) a vinyl alcohol polymer having a degree of saponification of 75 mol% or higher is used as a dispersant, (2) at least one polymerization initiator selected from hydrogen peroxide, ammonium persulfate and potassium persulfate is used, (3) the vinyl ester monomer in an amount less than 15 wt.% based on the whole amount of the monomer is charged in the initial period of polymerization, (4) the vinyl ester monomer in an amount of 85 wt.% or more based on the whole amount of the monomer is continuously or discontinuously added in the latter period of polymerization, and (5) the average amount of residual vinyl ester monomer in the latter period of polymerization is kept to 7 wt.% or less. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic resin emulsion powder which is excellent in film strength and alkali resistance and contains no aldehyde, and its preparation method. SOLUTION: The synthetic resin emulsion powder is obtained by spray drying an aqueous emulsion. The aqueous emulsion comprises a (meth)acrylic resin emulsion comprising a vinyl alcohol polymer having a degree of saponification of 70 mol% as a dispersant and a polymer comprising at least one monomer unit chosen from an acrylate monomer unit and a methacrylate monomer unit as a dispersoid. The aqueous emulsion yields ≤0.5 wt.% filtration residue based on the weight of its solid content when tested in a Maron mechanical stability tester at 20°C, 1,000 rpm under a load of at most 0.5 kg/cm 2 for 10 min and subsequently filtered with a 60-mesh stainless wire mesh. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method for the (meth)acrylic resin emulsion, which comprises emulsion (co)polymerizing at least one kind of monomer selected from acrylate monomers and methacrylate monomers, using a vinyl alcohol type polymer having a functional group containing an active hydrogen as a dispersant and employing a redox polymerization initiator consisting of a peroxide and a reducing agent, an iron compound (1), the monomer (2), and the vinyl alcohol type polymer (3) are charged at the initial stage of the polymerization and the peroxide is added into the system continuously or intermittently to carry out the emulsion (co)polymerization. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a binder for an ink or a coating material comprising a vinyl acetal polymer which has a low solution viscosity, additionally a high solid content (a high pigment content) and is suitable for manufacturing an ink having a sufficient ink dispersibility or a coating material. SOLUTION: The binder for the ink or the coating material is composed of the vinyl acetal polymer having a degree of acetalization of 45-80 mol% to be obtained by acetalizing a vinyl alcohol polymer having a degree of polymerization of 30-700 and a degree of saponification of 80-99.99 mol% and containing an ionic group bonded to the terminal through a sulfide bond which meets the conditions of equation (1): 0.15≤content≤218.3P -1.046 (wherein the content is a content (mol%) of the ionic group bonded through the sulfide group; and P is a degree of polymerization of the vinyl alcohol polymer). Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support for photographic printing paper excellent in adhesiveness of base paper including a polyvinyl alcohol resin to a polyolefin resin coating a surface of the base paper SOLUTION: The support for photographic printing paper is obtained by coating a surface of base paper including a polyvinyl alcohol resin in which the amount of 1,2-glycol bonds per molecule is 18-35 mol% with a polyolefin resin The support is excellent in adhesiveness of the polyolefin resin to the base paper and is suitably used as a support for photographic printing paper When the support for photographic printing paper is manufactured by extrusion-laminating the polyolefin resin on a surface of the base paper, since adhesiveness of the polyolefin resin to the base paper is excellent, the melt extrusion temperature of the polyolefin resin can be lowered and a low volatile matter content and a small energy loss are ensured to reduce environmental load COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
