Discrepancy between culture and DNA probe analysis for the detection of periodontal bacteria
T.J.M. van Steenbergen,Mark F. Timmerman,Frans Mikx,G.N.T. de Quincey,G.A. van der Weijden,U. van den Velden,J. de Graaff +6 more
TL;DR: The present data suggest that at least part of the discrepancies found between the DNA probe technique used and cultural methods are caused by false positive and false negative DNA probe results, and the value of this DNA probe method for the detection of periodontal pathogens is questionable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oral microbiota in subjects with a weak or strong response in experimental gingivitis
Lie,M.M. Jansen Danser,G.A. van der Weijden,Mark F. Timmerman,J. de Graaff,U. van der Velden +5 more
TL;DR: Examination of the composition of the oral microbiota in subjects who had previously demonstrated to develop either a weak or strong response to experimental gingivitis showed that most subjects had a relatively healthy periodontal condition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of sugar-free chewing gum sweetened with xylitol or maltitol on the development of gingivitis and plaque: a randomized clinical trial.
TL;DR: In circumstances where regular brushing is performed, no effect of chewing gum was observed on bleeding and plaque scores and in the absence of brushing, chewing xylitol or maltitol gum provided a significant inhibitory effect on gingivitis scores compared to chewing gum base.
Journal Article
The effect of different interdental cleaning devices on gingival bleeding.
N.A.M. Rosema,N.L. Hennequin-Hoenderdos,C.E. Berchier,Dagmar E. Slot,D.M. Lyle,G.A. van der Weijden +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the effectiveness of an oral irrigator (OI) with a prototype jet tip or a standard jet tip to floss as adjunct to daily toothbrushing on gingival bleeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of hexetidine mouthwash on the prevention of plaque and gingival inflammation: a systematic review.
TL;DR: Considering the potential benefits in the light of the observed side effects, hexetidine appears to be a poor alternative to chlorhexidine in the prevention of plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation.
