In situ studies on n2 fixation using the acetylene
TL;DR: Data obtained in experiments designed to test the feasibility of employing a simple method for measuring acetylene reduction as an index of N2 fixation in the field illustrate that the method is practical and extremely sensitive.
Journal ArticleDOI
In situ studies on N2 fixation using the acetylene reduction technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acetylene reduction by nitrogen-fixing blue-green algae.
TL;DR: Known nitrogen-fixing species of blue-green algae are capable of reducing acetylene to ethylene, but acetylene is not reduced by Anacystis nidulans, which does not fix nitrogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nitrogenase activity in wisconsin lakes of differing degrees of eutrophication
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared nitrogen fixation in various Wisconsin lakes using the C2H2 reduction technique and found that the rate of nitrogen fixation was greatest in the surface waters, was largely light dependent and showed a marked diurnal variation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acetylene reduction assay for determination of phosphorus availability in wisconsin lakes.
TL;DR: Phosphorus-starved cells of Anabaena flos-aquae rapidly increase their capacity to reduce acetylene to ethylene when they receive phosphorus, which may be used as a bioassay for detecting available phosphorus in aquatic ecosystems.
