Journal ArticleDOI

Factors shaping the composition of the cutaneous microbiota

TL;DR: The role of P. acnes in acne pathogenesis is a topic of intense scientific debate and results suggest that Westernization strongly increases the dominance of the Propionibacterium genus in human skin compared with natural populations living more traditional lifestyles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Propionic Acid Produced by Propionibacterium acnes Strains Contri-butes to Their Pathogenicity.

TL;DR: The results show that various P. acnes strains affect the cell-growth properties of these cells differentially, inducing cytotoxicity in a strain-specific and dose-dependent manner, and it is proposed that bacterially secreted propionic acid may contribute to the cytotoxic effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

TNFα gene polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris

TL;DR: The TNFα −857 minor T allele was found to act as a protective factor in the study population in acne, and a higher occurrence of the minor −308 A allele in female acne patients was also noted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interleukin-1A +4845(G>T) polymorphism is a factor predisposing to acne vulgaris

TL;DR: A positive association was found between the minor T allele of the IL1A +4845(G>T) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and acne, whereas no association was finding with respect to any alleles of the variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism of theIL1RN gene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Leptin promotes a proinflammatory lipid profile and induces inflammatory pathways in human SZ95 sebocytes

TL;DR: Leptin, the adipocyte‐secreted hormone that regulates weight, is known to link lipid metabolism with inflammation in various cell types, but its role in human sebocytes has not yet been investigated.
