Preparation and application of a magnetic composite (Mn3O4/Fe3O4) for removal of As(III) from aqueous solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic composite was synthesized through the precipitation of manganese oxide in the presence of magnetite particles using O2 as an oxidant, which proved to be chemically and physically stable within a wide range of pH values.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular modeling of iron and arsenic interactions with carboxy groups in natural biomass

TL;DR: In this article, specific interactions among arsenic, iron and a vegetable biomass are investigated with a view to demonstrate how these interactions can affect arsenic mobility in the environment, and the results demonstrate that carboxylic acid groups can affect AsV mobility so long as iron is available for bridging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mössbauer and EXAFS spectroscopy investigation of iron and arsenic adsorption to lettuce leaves

TL;DR: In this article, the accumulation of iron and arsenic from aqueous solution by lettuce leaves biomass was investigated using Mossbauer and EXAFS spectroscopic techniques, and the results showed that iron is oxidized during sorption while exascale results indicated that iron was coordinated by approximately 6 oxygen and 2 carbon atoms while arsenic is coordinated by 4 oxygen atoms with iron as a second neighbor.
Journal ArticleDOI

X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy Applied to Metal Accumulation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a brief description of the X-rays absorption phenomenon and the analytical technique involving this phenomenon, as well as the application of XAFS in biosorption studies.
