TL;DR: In this article, a bibliographical review in three databases was carried out, using selected keywords to identify aspects of Brazilian academic production about parental practices, and verified a coexistence of different theoretical models for the comprehension of parental behavior, while the age of children/adolescents was identified as an important variable for the distinction of these concepts.

TL;DR: The results indicate that although mothers from both contexts value autonomy, mothers inhabiting small towns considered the relational dimension as the most important; whereas mothers inhabitating capitals valued equally both dimensions, either in their beliefs about practices or in the socialization goals for their children.
