As modern vehicles and distributed fog services advance apace, vehicular fog services (VFSs) are being expected to span across multiple geo-distributed datacenters, which inevitably leads to cross-datacenter authentication. Traditional cross-datacenter authentication models are not suitable for the scenario of high-speed moving vehicles accessing VFS, because these models either ignored user privacy or ignored the delay requirement of driving vehicles. This paper proposes a blockchain-assisted lightweight anonymous authentication (BLA) mechanism for distributed VFS, which is provisioned to driving vehicles. BLA can achieve the following advantages: 1) realizing a flexible cross-datacenter authentication, in which a vehicle can decide whether to be reauthenticated or not when it enters a new vehicular fog datacenter; 2) achieving anonymity, and granting vehicle users the responsibility of preserving their privacy; 3) it is lightweight by achieving noninteractivity between vehicles and service managers (SMs), and eliminating the communication between SMs in the authentication process, which significantly reduces the communication delay; and 4) resisting the attack that the database governed by one center is tampered with. BLA achieves these advantages by effectively combining modern cryptographical technology and blockchain technology. These security features are demonstrated by carrying out security analysis. Meanwhile, extensive simulations are conducted to validate the efficiency and practicality of BLA.

Since most Internet of things (IoT) devices are energy-limited, increasingly more manufacturers have chosen to develop IoT applications based on group communication. For these applications, a secure and effective authenticated group secret key
 is fundamental to whole group communication. A large number of related protocols have been proposed to address this security problem. However, most of them have a centralized architecture, which is vulnerable to a single point of failure. Blockchain technology has the potential to address the challenges mentioned above because of its distributed, secure, and private property. Thus, this paper proposes a blockchain-based authenticated group key agreement protocol for IoT. The proposed protocol introduces a new entity called the device manager, who acts as an intermediary to connect IoT devices with blockchain networks. Security analysis demonstrates the robustness of the proposed protocol to various kinds of attacks. Besides, the simulation results further show that the time costs of protocol operations are reasonable and suitable for IoT environments.

A secure blockchain-based group key agreement protocol for IoT

Telemedicine offers medical services remotely via telecommunications systems and physiological monitoring devices. Group-oriented communication is an important application for telemedicine. However, transmission of information over an insecure channel such as Internet or private data storing generates a security problem. Therefore, authentication, confidentiality, and privacy are important challenges in telemedicine. Therefore, developing suitable encryption communication protocol for group communication is quite important for modern medicine. Group key agreement is one way to ensure the security of group-oriented communication for telemedicine. In this paper, we propose a dynamic and cross-domain authenticated asymmetric group key agreement. The protocol adopts cross-domain authentication mechanism to avoid the security risks of key escrow and the complexity of certificate management. It supports the dynamic group key update of nodes for forward secrecy and backward security of group key, and also achieving the key self-certified, the member participated group key agreement can self-certify whether the calculated group keys are correct. The protocol is proven secure under the inverse computational Diffie-Hellman problem assumption, and the performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme is highly efficient. The proposed scheme is more suitable for security group communication in telemedicine.

A Dynamic and Cross-Domain Authentication Asymmetric Group Key Agreement in Telemedicine Application

Group key agreement is a good way to ensure secure communication within a group. However, the identity authentication, privacy protection, and information sharing access control (different access rights may exist for different sensitivity of information) are key issues to be solved in group key agreement. Aiming at these problems, this paper proposes a group key agreement protocol based on privacy protection and attribute authentication (GKA-PPAA). The protocol proposes identity authentication for hidden attributes; it not only preserves the advantages of traditional identity-based key agreement protocol, but also provides hiding the identity information and privacy protection of the individual, and also proposes information sharing access control, which different secret information is shared among a set of members who have different levels of authority. It increases the flexibility of group key management. In addition, the group key factors are also calculated before the group key agreement, which eliminates most of the computation overhead due to the group key agreement. This protocol is proven secure under the discrete logarithm problem (DLP) and decisional bilinear Diffie-Hellman (DBDH) problem assumptions. The performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme is much more efficient than the existing ones.
