Nanoparticles (nanoparticles) have received much attention in biological application because of their unique physicochemical properties. The metal- and metal oxide-supported nanomaterials have shown significant therapeutic effect in medical science. The mechanisms related to the interaction of nanoparticles with animal and plant cells can be used to establish its significant role and to improve their activity in health and medical applications. Various attempts have been made to discuss the antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial activity of metal-supported nanoparticles. Despite all these developments, there is still a need to investigate their performance to overcome modern challenges. In this regard, the present review examines the role of various types of metal-supported nanomaterials in different areas such as antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, and so on. Based on the significant ongoing research and applications, it is expected that metal-supported nanomaterials play an outstanding role not only in medical but also in other important areas.

Recent Advances in Metal Decorated Nanomaterials and Their Various Biological Applications: A Review.

Fast dissolving oral films (FDOFs) are the most advanced form of oral solid dosage form due to more flexibility and comfort. It improve the efficacy of APIs by dissolving within minute in oral cavity after the contact with less saliva as compared to fast dissolving tablets, without chewing and no need of water for administration. The FDOFs place as an alternative in the market due to the consumer's preference for a fast- dissolving product over conventional tablets / capsules. The oral thin-film technology is still in the beginning stages and has bright future ahead because it fulfils all the need of patients. Eventually, film formulations having drug/s will be commercially launched using the oral film technology. However, for future growth point of view the oral thin film sector is well-positioned. In US market the OTC films of pain management and motion sickness are commercialized. More importantly, prescription OTFs have now been approved in US, EU and Japan which are the three major regions. These approved Rx films, have potential to dominate over other oral dosage forms of the same drugs. It seems that the value of the overall oral thin film market will grow significantly.

A Short Review on "A Novel Approach in Oral Fast Dissolving Drug Delivery System and Their Patents"

In the present era, gastroretentive dosage forms (GRDF) receive great attention because they can improve the performance of controlled release systems. An optimum GRDF system can be defined as a system which retains in the stomach for a sufficient time interval against all the physiological barriers, releases active moiety in a controlled manner, and finally is easily metabolized in the body. Physiological barriers like gastric motility and gastric retention time (GRT) act as obstacles in developing an efficient GRDF. Gastroretention can be achieved by developing different systems like high density systems, floating drug delivery systems (FDDS), mucoadhesive systems, expandable systems, superporous systems, and magnetic systems. All these systems have their own merits and demerits. This review focused on the various aspects useful in development of GRDF including the current trends and advancements.

Oral route is the most preferred route for administration of various drugs because it is regarded as safest, most convenient and economical route. Recently researcher developed the fast dissolving tablet (FDT) with improved patient compliance and convenience. FDTs are solid dosage forms which dissolve rapidly in saliva without chewing and additional water. FDTs overcome the disadvantages of conventional dosage form especially dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) in pediatric and geriatric patients. This review includes ideal properties, characteristics, challenges in formulation, suitability of drug candidates, various technologies developed for FDT, patented technologies, evaluation methods and various marketed products.

Fast dissolving tablets: preparation, characterization and evaluation: an overview

The ocular insert represents a significant advancement in the therapy of eye disease. Ocular inserts are defined as sterile, thin, multilayered, drug-impregnated, solid or semisolid consistency devices placed into the cul-de-sac or conjuctival sac, whose size and shape are especially designed for ophthalmic application. They are composed of a polymeric support that may or may not contain a drug. The drug can later be incorporated as dispersion or a solution in the polymeric support. They offer several advantages as increased ocular residence and sustained release of medication into the eye. The insert includes a body portion sized to position within a lachrymal canaliculus of the eyelid. The inserts are classified according to their solubility as insoluble, soluble, or bioerodible inserts. The release of drug from the insert depends upon the diffusion, osmosis, and bioerosion of the drug, and this article is an attempt to present a brief about this newer drug delivery system.

Ocular inserts - Advancement in therapy of eye diseases

Nanoparticles have several biomedical and industrial applications in diagnosis of disease, targeted chemotherapy and in drug delivery. Multifunctionality and sub-micronic size is the main characteristics of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles can be integrated with ligands, imaging labels, therapeutic agents and other functionalities for site specific drug delivery and cellular uptake. In the present review we are discussing the application and synthesis of gold nanoparticles which is the most studied among all metallo-nanoparticles. Various anticancer drugs are available but these are cause the necrosis of cancerous cell as well as normal cells. But gold nanoparticles cause the necrosis of only cancer cells. These are targeted drug delivery systems which are smaller than human cells so can easily penetrate the tumour and destroy the cancerous cell. Various anticancer drugs conjugated with gold nanoparticles result in increased efficiency of anticancer drug. Gold nanoparticles are beneficial for chemotherapy and also for diagnosis of cancer due to their photo physical property and optical property. Gold nanoparticles can be functionalized with protein, peptides and nucleic acid. So these have a great application not only in bio sensing drugs but also in drug, gene and protein delivery.
