TL;DR: In this paper, a modular social cognition theory explanation for the discrepancy between rational choice theory and individual choice is proposed, where individuals have evolved specialized cognitive capabilities for dealing with exchange relations and these very human capabilities do not operate by the same logic as rational choice.
