Acceleration and loss of relativistic electrons during geomagnetic storms: ACCELERATION AND LOSS OF RELATIVISTIC ELECTRONS
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi‐satellite measurements of the substorm injection region
TL;DR: In this article, a technique has been developed which allows remote sensing of the boundaries of the substorm injection region and the injection time by using measured energy dispersion and modeling particle drifts within the semi-empirical magnetospheric field model of Tsyganenko and Usmanov.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electric field structures and waves at plasma boundaries in the inner magnetosphere
David M. Malaspina,John R. Wygant,Robert E. Ergun,Geoff Reeves,Ruth M. Skoug,Brian A. Larsen +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a strong correlation was found between electric field structures and plasma boundaries, which is consistent with the scenario that the sources of the free energy for the structures and waves of interest are localized near and comove with these boundaries.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Global Statistical Response of the Outer Radiation Belt During Geomagnetic Storms
Kyle R. Murphy,Kyle R. Murphy,Clare E. J. Watt,Ian R. Mann,Jonathan Rae,David G. Sibeck,A. J. Boyd,Colin Forsyth,Drew Turner,Seth G. Claudepierre,Daniel N. Baker,Harlan E. Spence,Geoff Reeves,J. B. Blake,J. F. Fennell +14 more
TL;DR: Using the total radiation belt electron content calculated from Van Allen Probe phase space density (PSD), the time-dependent and global response of the outer radiation belt during storms is statistically studied in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reanalysis of relativistic radiation belt electron fluxes using CRRES satellite data, a radial diffusion model, and a Kalman filter
Yuri Shprits,Dmitri Kondrashov,Yue Chen,Richard M. Thorne,Michael Ghil,Michael Ghil,Reiner Friedel,Geoff Reeves +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a reanalysis of the sparse MEA CRRES relativistic electron data using a relatively simple one-dimensional radial diffusion model and a Kalman filtering approach was performed.
