Air Dilution, under Calm, of Spreading Dense Vapor from an Instantaneous Spill of Volatile Liquid

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors adopt depth-averaged, shallow-water gravity-wave theory to furnish a simplistic, tractable description of the lateral axisymmetric spreading of liquid and vapor in the aftermath of an accidental, instantaneous spill on level ground of a large quantity of volatile liquid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forced-Convection Extinction of a Diffusion Flame Sustained by a Charring Body

TL;DR: In this article, the subsonic isobaric forced-convective flow of air past a pyrolyzing, char-forming body outgassing combustible fuel vapor is examined; the goal is to seek a generalized approach toward establishing approximate criteria for extinction of burning.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deflagration of mixed powders for rapid gas generation

TL;DR: In this article, the structure of a steady laminar isobaric planar deflagration propagating through a uniform mixture of pressed powders is analyzed, where the powders react rapidly to generate copious gas, as well as solid (and possibly molten) products of combustion.
