iHIS essay follows on chronologically from an earlier survey of recent Spanish economic literature by Angus Mackay which reviews the millennium from the beginnings of the Christian reconquest to the failure of the nineteenth-century liberal reforms.2 The material dealt with here, all published in Spain since I970, covers the narrower time-span of the past one hundred years, from the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in I 874 to the demise of the Franco regime. There is a select bibliography at the end of the text. In addition, the reader is referred to bibliographical essays by Rafael Aracil and Marius Garcia Bonaf6 (4), Casimir Marti (I!3), and Carlos Rama (I49).

From the biography of Joaquin Costa, small upper-Aragon farmer, and his prodigious intellectual and working capacity, his main agrarian activities can be described. We continue explaining and offering bibliographical solutions: his work is so extensive and abundant and its edition had so many problems, that news about the possibility of approaching it with methodological guides and critics, and in many cases through the simple facility of the Internet is excellent. In the light of his main works, they are then analyzed in terms of law and custom, old and new systems of collectivism and property, social problems of the rural society, common proposals of hydraulic policy, political connections of that agrarian perception, and the present validity of some of his main proposals.
