Journal ArticleDOI
A systematic review of tranexamic acid in hip fracture surgery.
TL;DR: There is moderate quality evidence that TXA reduces blood transfusion in hip fracture surgery, with low quality evidence suggesting no increased risk of thrombotic events.
Journal ArticleDOI
A longitudinal MRI study of muscle atrophy during lower leg immobilization following ankle fracture.
Maria Psatha,Zhiqing Wu,Fiona M. Gammie,Aivaras Ratkevicius,Henning Wackerhage,Jennifer H. Lee,Thomas William Redpath,Fiona J. Gilbert,George P. Ashcroft,Judith R. Meakin,Richard M. Aspden +10 more
TL;DR: MRI biomarkers of muscle atrophy during cast immobilization of the lower leg are investigated to investigate MRI biomarkers in response to treatment with immobilization to find out whether these biomarkers improve or worsen with age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Convection warmers--a possible source of contamination in laminar airflow operating theatres?
Nezar Tumia,George P. Ashcroft +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that use of warm air convection heaters on patients produced a small increase in the number of colony forming units in ultra-clean air theatres but the levels were unlikely to have clinical significance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extraction of broken intramedullary nails--an improvement in technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of osteoarthritis in knee and hip joints by fast field-cycling NMR
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the articular cartilage exhibits clear quadrupolar peaks that can be measured by a benchtop fast field‐cycling NMR device and which changes significantly between normal and diseased tissues (P < 0.01), probably glycan specific.
