Predictors of outcome in severe, asymptomatic aortic stenosis.
Raphael Rosenhek,Thomas Binder,Gerold Porenta,Irene Lang,G. Christ,Michael Schemper,Gerald Maurer,Helmut Baumgartner +7 more
TL;DR: The presence of moderate or severe valvular calcification, together with a rapid increase in aortic-jet velocity, identifies patients with a very poor prognosis and these patients should be considered for early valve replacement rather than have surgery delayed until symptoms develop.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myocardial Viability and Survival in Ischemic Left Ventricular Dysfunction
Robert O. Bonow,Gerald Maurer,Kerry L. Lee,Thomas A. Holly,Philip F. Binkley,Patrice Desvigne-Nickens,Jarosław Drożdż,Pedro Silvio Farsky,Arthur M. Feldman,Torsten Doenst,Robert E. Michler,Daniel S. Berman,Jose C. Nicolau,Patricia A. Pellikka,Krzysztof Wróbel,Nasri Alotti,Federico M. Asch,Liliana E. Favaloro,Lilin She,Eric J. Velazquez,Robert H. Jones,Julio A. Panza +21 more
TL;DR: The presence of viable myocardium was associated with a greater likelihood of survival in patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction, but this relationship was not significant after adjustment for other baseline variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late prognostic value of flow-mediated dilation in the brachial artery of patients with chest pain.
Thomas Neunteufl,Sandra Heher,Reinhold Katzenschlager,Gabriele Wölfl,Karam Kostner,Gerald Maurer,Franz Weidinger +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Ross et al. showed that CRP levels do not correlate with the extent and severity of coronary narrowing assessed by angiography, and other mechanisms such as acute inflammation with plaque instability and rupture may explain the higher cardiovascular event rate in patients with elevated CRP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcome of Watchful Waiting in Asymptomatic Severe Mitral Regurgitation
Raphael Rosenhek,Florian Rader,Ursula Klaar,Harald Gabriel,Marcel Krejc,Daniel Kalbeck,Michael Schemper,Gerald Maurer,Helmut Baumgartner +8 more
TL;DR: Asymptomatic patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation can be safely followed up until either symptoms occur or currently recommended cutoff values for LV size, LV function, or pulmonary hypertension are reached.
Journal ArticleDOI
Natural History of Very Severe Aortic Stenosis
Raphael Rosenhek,Robert Zilberszac,Michael Schemper,Martin Czerny,Gerald Mundigler,Senta Graf,Jutta Bergler-Klein,Michael Grimm,Harald Gabriel,Gerald Maurer +9 more
TL;DR: Despite being asymptomatic, patients with very severe aortic stenosis have a poor prognosis with a high event rate and a risk of rapid functional deterioration and early elective valve replacement surgery should be considered in these patients.
