Journal ArticleDOI

Circadian rhythms in electrical discharge of rat suprachiasmatic neurones recorded in vitro

Gerard Groos, +1 more
- 31 Dec 1982 -
TL;DR: The SCN explant is capable of endogenous generation of at least one circadian cycle in vitro and exhibited a circadian rhythm similar to that reported for the SCN in freely moving animals.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of sleep deprivation on sleep in rats with suprachiasmatic lesions.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the homeostatic component of sleep regulation is morphologically and functionally distinct from the circadian component.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maintained discharge of rat suprachiasmatic neurons at different adaptation levels

TL;DR: In the rat the response of suprachiasmatic nucleus neurons to steady retinal illumination at different adaptation luminances was studied and results confirm that in this nucleus the discharge rate is more commonly increased than suppressed by light.
Journal ArticleDOI

Persistence of visual responsiveness in the lateral geniculate nucleus of rats treated with monosodium-L-glutamate.

TL;DR: Results demonstrate the MSG-induced retinal damage does not lead to blindness in the rat, and the similarity in pathophysiology between MSG lesioned rats and animals exposed to constant illumination is discussed.
