The present invention relates to thermoplastic moulding compositions of (A) thermoplastic polycarbonates, if appropriate mixed with (B) thermoplastic polyalkylene terephthalates and, if appropriate, additionally with (C) elastomeric graft polymers, characterized in that they contain (D) a terpolymer of acrylates, vinyl esters and unsaturated nitriles.

Transparent Polycarbonate Polyester Composition and Process

A polycarbonate resin composition comprising (A) 20 to 90% by weight of a polycarbonate resin, (B) 5 to 70% by weight of an aromatic polyester resin, (C) 1 to 15% by weight of an isobutylene copolymer rubber composed of a major proportion of isobutylene and a minor proportion of isoprene, (D) 1 to 20% by weight of an elastomeric acrylic graft copolymer resin composed of, as a trunk polymer, a crosslinked acrylic copolymer containing not less than 3% by weight of butadiene as a comonomer and being free from ethylene and grafted thereto, at least one grafting monomer selected from the group consisting of styrene, alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates, and (E) 0 to 15% by weight of an olefin resin derived from an olefin having 2 to 6 carbon atoms; wherein the weight ratio of [resin (A)+resin (B)]/[rubber (C)+resin (D)] is from 2 to 20, and if the resin (E) is present, the weight ratio of resin (B)/[rubber (C)+resin (D)+resin (E)] is from 1 to 5.

Polycarbonate resin composition

Blends of carbonate polymer, such as a polycarbonate of bisphenol-A, and a rubber-modified copolymer, such as an acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene (ABS) resin prepared by mass, bulk or mass suspension polymerization techniques, or by agglomerating particles prepared by emulsion polymerization techniques, exhibit good physical properties and a low gloss finish. Such blends are particularly useful in the manufacture of molded parts. Such blends are color stable and exhibit small amounts of yellowing.

Low gloss carbonate polymer blends

Clear, transparent, single phase blends of polycarbonate and a polyalkyl methacrylate in which the alkyl radical contains from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, and in which the polycarbonate and the polyalkyl methacrylate are miscible in all proportions are obtained. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the preferred polyalkyl methacrylate. These blends may be prepared by dissolving the two polymers in a mutual solvent having a boiling point of at least about 30° C. and evaporating the solvent at a temperature of from about 30° C. to the boiling point of the solvent. The preferred evaporation temperatures are from about 45° C. to the boiling point of the solvent. This is in contrast to presently known PC/PMMA blends, which are miscible only when the content is nearly all PC or nearly all PMMA. Preferred blends according to this invention contain from 10 to 80 percent by weight of PC and conversely 90 to 20 percent by weight of PMMA. The single phase blends are moldable and transparent.
