TL;DR: In this paper, a variational method for the postbuckling of elastic plates is proposed, and approximate solutions for various cases are obtained using finite element methods, where the problem is phrased as a nonlinear eigenvalue problem and variational principles have a form which can be characterized as nonlinear Rayleigh principle.

Free and steady state vibration of non‐linear structures using a finite element–non‐linear eigenvalue technique
TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of free vibration of non-linear structures is considered, and it is shown that this problem can be represented as a nonlinear eigenvalue problem, which can be used in modal expansion approximations for the nonlinear transient or steady state response of structural systems.

Post‐buckling behaviour of structures using a finite element–nonlinear eigenvalue technique
