This part of the study highlights the contents of the published articles in terms of various disciplines or sub-disciplines and the bibliometric aspects discussed in these articles. The analysis of 902 papers published by Indian scholars during1995-2014 indicates that the main focus of bibliometrics/scientometrics is on assessment of science and technology in India in different sub-disciplines including contributions by Indian states and other individual countries followed by bibliometric analysis of individual journals. Papers dealing with bibliometric laws received a low priority as compared to other subdisciplines of bibliometrics/scientometrics. The analysis of data indicates that the share of theoretical studies using mathematical and statistical techniques which were missing in the earlier period (1970-1994) has increased during 1995-2014. The field of medicine as a discipline received the highest attention as compared to other disciplines.

Bibliometrics and scientometrics in India: An overview of studies during 1995-2014Part II: Contents of the articles in terms of disciplines and their bibliometric aspects

This paper analyses the growth pattern of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology literature in India during 1990---2009 (20 years). The Scopus international multidisciplinary bibliographical database has been used to identify the Indian contributions on the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The study measures the performance based on several parameters, country annual growth rate, authorship pattern, collaborative index, collaborative coefficient, modified collaborative coefficient, subject profile, etc. Further the study examines national publication output and impact in terms of average citations per paper, international collaboration output and share, contribution and impact of Indian Institutions and impact of Indian journals.

Mapping of nanoscience and nanotechnology research in India: a scientometric analysis, 1990---2009

This bibliography lists citations of English-language articles, books and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet. The history of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant (MAP) utilization dates back to the beginnings of mankind. Our forefathers used natural substances, they could find in nature, to ease, cure their sufferings, illnesses, to heal their wounds. This type of approach has survived in the Traditional Medicinal (TM) uses, until today, since nearly 80 % of the world population still relies on MAPs in their medications. The renaissance of MAP-use in the high-income countries of the world has brought about a different type of use in the form of Herbal Medicines (CAM). MAPs have become “industrial products” with new concepts like phytotherapy and veterinary medicinal uses, aromatherapy, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, and animal welfare uses widening the scope of the utilization. New, innovative, value added applications include their use in functional foods, animal husbandry, as well as plant protection in agriculture. In this regards the versatile utilization of essential oils is promising. Modern approaches in production and uses have brought about an increased focus on the importance of quality, safety and efficacy of both MAPs and their produce. MAPs will also maintain their importance in the search for new, valuable sources of drugs and lead compounds. In view of the steadily increasing demands on these important natural resources, attention should be paid to the sustainable forms of production and utilization.

Innovation and research by private agribusiness in India

– The study has been undertaken with the purpose of finding out the growth and characteristics of digital library literature., – Over 1,000 articles for the period 1998‐2004 were collected from LISA Plus and were analyzed to study authorship patterns, authors' productivity and prominent contributors, language‐wise and year‐wise distribution of articles, country‐wise distribution of journals, core journals in the subject area, and indexing term frequency., – Some of the important findings are that most articles (61 percent) are single‐authored; author productivity is not in agreement with Lotka's Law, except in one case where number of articles is three; the maximum number of articles were published in 2003 with English being the most productive language; maximum articles were published in the journal D‐lib Magazine; distribution of articles nearly follows Bradford's Law; and USA ranked first for maximum number of journals., – The paper is relevant to those interested in bibliometrics and provides a comprehensive overview of authorship in the library and information science community.

A bibliometric study of literature on digital libraries

The study presents an analysis of 536 papers published on library and information science education during the period 1995 to 2004. The productivity of authors and core periodicals have been determined using Lotka's and Bradford's law. Literature growth, country-wise distribution of papers and language pattern have also been studied. Literature growth in this area of LIS has been found to be negative. Most of the papers have been contributed by single authors (72.8%) and two authors (20.69%) and 72 % of literature is published in 72 journals.

Periodical literature on library and information science education : A bibliometric study

Purpose – The study aims to present a bibliometric analysis of scientific output of the plant Embelia ribes, the aim being to offer an overview of research activity in this field and characterize its most important aspects.Design/methodology/approach – A total of 332 articles were collected from following databases: Pub Med, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstract, Indian Science Abstract and Biological Abstract. The searches were restricted to published articles and contain the terms Embelia ribes and Vidanga. The various analyses focus on growth of literature, authorship pattern, most prolific authors, core journals of the subject, most productive institutes and countries. A bibliometric study of Embelia ribes

An attempt has been made to study the trends of patenting activity in the field of agriculture with reference to India using data from various databases, such as, USPTO, EPO, PCT and Gazette of India Part III Section 2. The study covers the data from the period 1 January1995 to 31 December 2004 (WTO era), where in 415 patents exclusively related to agriculture have been taken for analysis. The study indicates the focus of research of different organizations /industries in specific areas of agriculture and highlights the important technological directions and gaps for further pursuing R&D in agriculture.

Patenting Activities in Agriculture from India

Vidang, a well known drug in ayurvedic system of medicine, is obtained from the medicinal plant, Embelia ribes. Through citation mapping, a comprehensive bibliography has been compiled to study the research work done on this plant in India. Citation maps allow browsing through titles, and provides the users with some directions into the information available. It may be useful for researchers to identify areas where there could be more scientific study.
