Survival of Rickettsia conorii in artificially contaminated whole and leukoreduced canine blood units during the storage period.
Laura Lucchese,Silvia Ravagnan,Graziana Da Rold,Federica Toniolo,Wendy Wurzburger,Monica Mion,Antonio Carminato,Pierre-Edouard Fournier,Gioia Capelli,Alda Natale,Marta Vascellari +10 more
TL;DR: Rickettsia conorii survived for the entire storage period in both whole and leukoreduced blood, and viability generally decreased over time, particularly in LR-WB bags where the isolation time was longer than in WB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid spread of a new West Nile virus lineage 1 associated with increased risk of neuroinvasive disease during a large outbreak in northern Italy, 2022: One Health analysis.
Luisa Barzon,Monia Pacenti,Fabrizio Montarsi,Diletta Fornasiero,Federica Gobbo,Erika Quaranta,Isabella Monne,Alice Fusaro,Andrea Volpe,Alessandro Sinigaglia,Silvia Riccetti,Emanuela Dal Molin,Sorsha Satto,Vittoria Lisi,Federico Gobbi,Silvia Galante,Giuseppe Feltrin,Valerio Valeriano,Laura Favero,Francesco Russo,Matteo Mazzucato,Alessio Bortolami,Paolo Mulatti,Calogero Terregino,Gioia Capelli +24 more
TL;DR: A new strain of WNV lineage 1 (WNV--1) emerged in the Veneto Region, northern Italy, in 2021, eight years after the last outbreak in Italy as mentioned in this paper , where most human cases of neuroinvasive disease (WNND) reported in Europe have occurred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maria Teresa Antognoni,F. Rocconi,Silvia Ravagnan,Marta Vascellari,Gioia Capelli,Arianna Miglio,M. Di Tommaso +6 more
TL;DR: In this article , the clinical and biomolecular findings of the infection due to Cytauxzoon sp. and concomitant coinfections are described in three domestic cats in central Italy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Real-time PCR assay for screening Pneumocystis in free-living wild squirrels and river rats in Italy.
Patrizia Danesi,Christian Falcaro,Silvia Ravagnan,Graziana Da Rold,Elena Porcellato,Michela Corrò,Roberta Iatta,Claudia Cafarchia,Antonio Frangipane di Regalbono,Wieland Meyer,Gioia Capelli +10 more
TL;DR: The rtPCR assay should be reliable for screening large populations for this potential pathogen, thereby allowing cost-effective monitoring of the disease in wild animals, and was more sensitive than a nested PCR that targets a portion of the mtSSU rRNA and the mitochondrial large subunit of rRNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary Results On the Efficacy of Macroalgal Extracts Against Larvae of Aedes albopictus
Simona Armeli Minicante,Sara Carlin,Marica Stocco,Adriano Sfriso,Gioia Capelli,Fabrizio Montarsi +5 more
TL;DR: Activity of ethanolic extracts of the algae Ulva rigida, Asparagopsis taxiformis, Dictyota dichotoma, and Cystoseira barbata was tested against larvae of the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), a vector of pathogens for animals and humans.
