Journal ArticleDOI
Preload Characterization of Short Models of MQXF the Nb3Sn Low-β Quadrupole for the Hi-Lumi LHC
E. Takala,Giorgio Ambrosio,Nicolas Bourcey,Daniel W. Cheng,Paolo Ferracin,Michael Guinchard,Susana Izquierdo Bermudez,Franco Mangiarotti,Heng Pan,Juan Carlos Perez,Soren Prestemon,Giorgio Vallone,Thomas Strauss +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors further developed the conventional azimuthal preload analysis and introduced a new set of tools for MQXF coil pack characterization, which they used to analyse the behaviour of MqXFS6 room temperature preload and to reanalyse all the short models tested at CERN.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alternative Mechanical Structure for LARP Nb $_{3}$ Sn Quadrupoles
Michael Anerella,J. Cozzolino,Giorgio Ambrosio,Shlomo Caspi,Helene Felice,P. Kovach,M.J. Lamm,G.L. Sabbi,Jesse Schmalzle,P. Wanderer +9 more
TL;DR: An alternative structure for the 120 mm Nb3Sn quadrupole magnet presently under development for use in the upgrade for LHC at CERN is presented in this article, which builds on the existing technology developed in LARP with the LQ and HQ series magnets and further optimizes the features required for operation in the accelerator.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Full-Length Quench Antenna Array for MQXFA Production Series Quadrupole Magnet Testing
Joseph DiMarco,Giorgio Ambrosio,Kathleen Amm,Michael Anerella,Sandor Feher,P. Joshi,Joseph Muratore,S. Stoynev,Thomas Strauss +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a full-length Quench Antenna Array (QAA) with axial resolution of 50 mm was built for cold testing in the anti-cryostat.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Design modifications, fabrication and test of HFDB-03 racetrack magnet wound with pre-reacted Nb3Sn Rutherford cable
Giorgio Ambrosio,N. Andreev,E. Barzi,Srikrishna Bhashyam,R. Carcagno,Sandor Feher,L. Imbasciati,M. Lamm,Yu. Pischalnikov,M. Tartaglia,J.C. Tompkins,A. V. Zlobin +11 more
TL;DR: A 10 T racetrack magnet (HFDB•03) wound with pre-reacted Nb3Sn Rutherford cable has been fabricated and tested at Fermilab as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic Measurements on the First CERN-Built Models of the Insertion Quadrupole MQXF for HL-LHC
Lucio Fiscarelli,Hugues Bajas,O. Dunkel,Paolo Ferracin,S. Izquierdo Bermudez,Stephan Russenschuck,Ezio Todesco,Giorgio Ambrosio +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the test setup for magnetic measurements, both at ambient and cryogenic temperatures, and the instrumentation being used for the first two short-models of MQXF built and tested at CERN.
