Journal ArticleDOI

Passive film of 18-8 stainless steel structure and its function

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the structure and composition of the passive film formed in sulphuric acid solution at definite potentials in the passive region, and the most important parameter controlling the corrosion resistance of the steel is concluded to be the amorphous nature of the film in which bound water is included.
Book ChapterDOI

Electrochemical Passivation of Metals

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that metal surfaces can be made stable in the presence of a strong oxidant or polarizing the electrode potential in the anodic direction, which is called electrochemical passivation of metals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dissolution of Hydrous Chromium Oxide in Acid Solutions

TL;DR: In this article, the dissolution of a nonporous passive oxide film in aqueous solution has been investigated from an electrochemical point of view and the dissolution mechanism is discussed from the electrochemical perspective.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in the power spectral density of noise current on type 304 stainless steels during the long time passivation in sulfuric acid solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, the anodic current fluctuation during long time passivation on type 304SS in H2SO4 aq. solutions without aggressive ions was analyzed by FFT method and the observed dependence of power spectral density (PSD) on passivation potential and time can be described in terms of the nature of two kinds of bound water incorporated in the passive film.
