The rapid expansion of information science has caused the issue of “the curse of dimensionality”, which will negatively affect the performance of the machine learning model. Feature selection is typically considered as a pre-processing mechanism to find an optimal subset of features from a given set of all features in the data mining process. In this article, a novel Hyper Learning Binary Dragonfly Algorithm (HLBDA) is proposed as a wrapper-based method to find an optimal subset of features for a given classification problem. HLBDA is an enhanced version of the Binary Dragonfly Algorithm (BDA) in which a hyper learning strategy is used to assist the algorithm to escape local optima and improve searching behavior. The proposed HLBDA is compared with eight algorithms in the literature. Several assessment indicators are employed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of these methods over twenty-one datasets from the University of California Irvine (UCI) repository and Arizona State University. Also, the proposed method is applied to a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) dataset. The results demonstrate the superiority of HLBDA in increasing classification accuracy and reducing the number of selected features. 2

A review on deep learning in medical image analysis.

Light microscopes were developed in the early 1600’s. By the end of the century Dutch microscopist van Leeuwenhoek had imaged blood cells, bacteria and structure within the cell using a simple one-lens microscope with x300 magnification which was awkward to use. At the same time the compound microscope was being developed. This uses at least two lenses; an objective, placed close to the specimen, and an eyepiece (ocular), placed close to the eye. Such was van Leeuwenhoek’s skill, however, that it was two centuries before the compound microscope could match his work. Compound optical microscopes, these days, have a maximum magnification of about x1000 and an imaging resolution of around 0.3μm for light in the middle of the visible region (λ~0.5μm). Aberrations in light optical lenses can be reduced to a minimum by grinding the lens surface to a correct shape or spacing the lenses so that their aberrations are compensated. In the absence of aberrations the limit of resolution (d) of any wave optical microscope is given by the Rayleigh criterion:-

Introduction to electron microscopy

In this paper, a novel shape recognition method based on radial basis probabilistic neural network (RBPNN) is proposed. The orthogonal least square algorithm (OLSA) is used to train the RBPNN and the recursive OLSA is adopted to optimize the structure of the RBPNN. A leaf image database is used to test the proposed method. And a modified Fourier method is applied to descript the shape of the plant leaf. The experimental result shows that the RBPNN achieves higher recognition rate and better classification efficiency with respect to radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), BP neural network (BPNN) and multi-Layer perceptron network (MLPN) for the plant species identification.

A deep learning approach to detect Covid-19 coronavirus with X-Ray images.

The objective of the present work is to design computer-aided classification (CAC) system to discriminate among various medicinal leaves. This objective is achieved with the designing of a classification system using shape features to obtain high accuracy of end results. In order to evaluate the performance of the presented work six leaf classes were adopted and its shape features were extracted. The role of each shape feature in differentiating the leaves from one another is studied using region of convergence (ROC) curves. The combined effect of both the shape features is studied using neural network classifiers. Two neural network (NN) Classifiers were designed to classify the leaves and their performance is compared. First classifier is designed using radial bases function neural network (RBFNN) and second using feedforward backpropagation neural network (FFBPNN) with a single hidden layer. A comparative study for this dataset reveals that RBFNN shows 92% classification accuracy which is 2.7% higher than that of FFBPNN.
